Try a spark/skinny sim and report back.

We have a similar issue with a imported dumbphone on vodafone at the bach, we leave it on 2g. I know others that have glitches when on the edge of 2degrees/voda coverage, their networks seem less tolerant to our 'dodgy' imported phones. I wouldn't tolerate it on a smart phone. Easiest just to change networks if you get coverage.

There must me some kind of interference around my area, i was at a mates work most of today, he has cell tower directly across the road from him and i had full coverage no problem. Get home and check phone, pretty much nothing on 4g. I have already purchased a vodafone sim and don't really want to buy another. I'm locked in a contract for another 7 months so can't really change anyway.

It's not SIM card or carrier related, When at home and the handset is showing 4G and you make a call out the handset will pass down to 3G to place that call out, What coverage shows then?

Please provide the exact model of the handset under settings - about then ' model number '

Edit: Also approx where is home?

When i make a call on 4G the coverage goes back up to almost full.  The model number is SM-N7505.  Baseband version N7505XXUCNK1.

I live in the top part of Elizabeth DR. West Harbour. Closer to Hobsonville Rd.

Ok so you are on fringe 4G coverage 1800Mhz and when you place a call out handset passes down to 3G 900Mhz for the voice call under network settings change it to dual mode 2G GSM / 3G WCDMA

But it's also fine sitting on low 4G the handset will pass down to 3G when required

Have you locked the handset to 2G / 3G only dual mode?

when in 2g/3g mode everything works fine. was in cbd area today and switched to 4g, seemed to be ok.  I must just have bad coverage in my street. I checked spark coverage map, no 4 g at all . Hopefully more cell towers will get upgraded or new ones put in around my area

Have you checked what 4G coverage is like outside the house?

out side the house and walking up down street it varies between 1 and 2 bars . At end of street is a park which is elevated and get 4 bars there.  i installed an app which is supposed to show signal strength. It said no coverage at all, but whether it true or not who knows
