I've been looking for a 5.5-6.5" device with a 1080p screen on the cheap, had been looking at Chinese brands like the Ulefone Be Touch 2. I hadn't noticed the Smart Ultra before today, but seeing as it is local I might pop in after work and grab one of these, just wan't to confirm though, this is an unlocked device?

Yep -
NikT: ... Smart ultra is not network locked. ...

But -
NikT: ...  Smart ultra does not support the 850MHz 3G band, however, so is not suitable for anyone on Spark or Skinny. ...

I popped into Vodafone on the way home, played with it for about 30sec and thought "yip, this is worth $299" so bought one, going to unbox it now and have a play :)

Let us know what you think after you've had a play.

I'm thinking of giving my Prime to the missus and getting an Ultra.

My Nexus 5 just bit the dust.  Is this phone comparable performance wise?

I would buy one right now if it came with wireless/qi charging.  Don't want to give up my airdock and 3d printed wireless charging docks.  really wish that was the standard on phones...

1st impressions are good, screen is fantastic and very bright. I put up an unboxing/1st impressions video if you want to check it out: https://youtu.be/qZNFRpDXIF4

Wow, thanks for the video, I'll watch that when I get home from work tonight.

Is the USB port on the right of the phone like it is with the Prime? I've discovered that my hands-free kit has two little arms that hold the phone and cover that port so not possible to charge while in the car.

I had a short play with one in store last night. It's very nice and surprisingly light. Took a few photos and the camera seems a lot better than the one in my Elephone P7000.

Thanks for making the video! Any questions about the phone, let me know.

It's centered on the bottom. :)

My smart 4 power battery is pretty much dead only giving me 4~ hours on screen life.

Would this be a good upgrade? Saw the promo video on Facebook for it and its fairly cheap.

If I buy it outright can I keep the same sim as my current plan?

I think it uses a nano sim so you'd need a new sim, however you should be able to switch your current plan and number to the new sim.
