Ummm, if you're trying to use your old sim I don't think they take the same sized sim.

Googling shows the Asha 302 to use a mini sim, whereas your new phone uses a micro sim. See a site like this for comparision

I'm sure you can get your number switched over to a new sim card with Vodafone, if that's who you're with.

Have you tried inserting the sim that was supplied free with the phone? That'll give you 1GB /200 mins / unlimited text for a month.

Oh okay -- its just that the supplied SIM with the phone is the same size as my old SIM. But the new one can be broken down smaller - am I suppose to do that?

JohnR: Would it be possible to have my old number transferred to the new SIM?

It is possible but if the SIM cards are the same size it's not worth it

Yes - you need to make it to the "micro" size - not the smallest on that sim, which is the nano (eg, used by the iPad).

That sim supplied with the phone isn't a blank sim, but has a number on it. The standard way is to purchase a blank micro sim at a Vodafone store and have them transfer your number to this.

So while you use that free sim you'll be operating off a different mobile number (it'll be on the sim envelope).

I can make the SIM supplied with the handset a blank SIM so it can be allocated to another MSISDN

Managed to turn off mobile data, and also rename my device. John also blanked the new SIM, and put my old cell number so it goes to the new sim. All working good. I find it much easier to type on this device than my Samsung tablet.

Why is my phone downloading apps I uninstalled yesterday? I think it is because the Gmail account linked to my Samsung tablet (which has these apps its currently downloading on my phone) is the same as the one I signed into my phone with. How do I unattach my Gmail account with my phone, so I can use a different Gmail account?

Disable the apps don't remove them if they are factory Apps, Also in play store you can delete app history ' My Apps ' then select ' ALL ' and you can click on the X

I created a new Gmail account and added that to my phone, to sync witj. I disabled all options of syncing to my other Gmail (initial) account (which I use on my tablet) on the phone. Will that ensure if I download an app on my Samsung tablet, it won't start downloading the same app on my phone if its no longer syncing?

Is there a good reason (other than the issue you're having with it download apps automatically) that you're wanting to have different Gmail/Google accounts on the tablet and phone? If it's only due to this problem, why not try to fix that issue (and John's offering advice on this above) as surely the hassle of not having access to your main email account(s) on both devices is greater than sorting out the problem?

Well I don't even use my Gmail account - the emails get forwarded to my clear.net.nz email.

I won't sign up to things using my new Gmail account, for it to get emails. I don't even intend of emailing from my phone.

I think John's advise is to disable the apps (but to do that they first need to download and install) -- perhaps not syncing my apps with my initial Gmail account may be the answer?

EDIT: would it be disabling the sync of App data (under settings of that account), that would disable the sync of no new apps being installed on my phone, if before they are installed on my tablet?

Hi John

Thanks for that. I think all factory apps are installed already.

However before it was downloading Evernote, Home Design3D, Force Fit, Perfect Piano, Clash of Clans... apps I have installed on my tablet.

So my question is would it be disabling the sync of App data (under settings of my initial Gmail account), that would disable the sync of no new apps being installed on my phone, if before they are installed on my tablet?

Nope that is only App data not the actual Apps as I understand

When I set up my Prime I gave it my Google account login and it the retrieved a list of apps that I had installed on my old S3 and I could tick just the ones that I wanted to install (or was it untick the ones I didn't want? either way I could select which ones I wanted and which I didn't). I only installed the ones that I know I use regularly, just to keep things lean and mean.

Sadly my phone has never presented me with that option -- it automatically downloaded and installed the apps that have been downloaded and installed on the tablet, after purchasing it, on my phone.

I picked up two of these on the weekend on a raincheck from the Warehouse and got the local Vodafone outlet to do the necessary to set them up (at their suggestion - thanks, guys). I was expecting them to swap the SIM from the old phone, as has happened before, but they put a new one in, because of the mini/micro difference, so all the contact info etc I'd carefully saved to the SIM wasn't transferred. Last night I downloaded Wondershare Mobile Transfer (and even paid for it!) to copy everything across (connect both phones via USB and hit copy) which it did fine. For some reason, it had to install MobileGo to enable the transfer and make it the default messaging app, but promised to prompt me to reset Messenger as my default app, which it duly did after the transfer was complete. (I actually stopped the transfer when it hit the last three files, all over 400mb, because they were on the SD card that I was going to move anyway).

BUT now, Messenger won't stay open long enough for me to select a message. I tap the icon on the home screen, which says there are (now) 2 messages to read, the messages list fills the screen for a split second and then disappears. I uninstalled the MobileGo app, in case it was interfering, but it makes no difference. I'm guessing a factory reset would fix the problem, but that would kill all the data/apps I've moved across. If anyone has any ideas on how I can get around this, I'd be appreciative as the second one was for my wife and she'd like all her contacts back please

. BTW, how do I set applications to be default?

Solved by Vodafone. Factory reset did the trick but lost the messages that had been copied across, including a couple of locked ones that had codes I needed to keep. Fortunately, I can still access them on the old phone. Further trick for young players - if you don't use data on 3/4G and you turn it off in settings as I do, a reset will turn it on. Obvious, I know, but I missed it and blew through my prepay budget in 3 days instead of 3 weeks, just doing app updates. It really is just a phone for me, with some useful apps, but now it is a phone that I can read ebooks on as well. Really nice screen. Would trade again.
