Andib:
kandjc: A salesman at the Spark shop told me the Vodafone Prime 6 will not work on Spark network.

They are correct AFAIK, Looking at the specs it doesn't support 850 WCDMA "3G" so will have very limited coverage on Sparks Network outside the main centers that have 2100mhz infill coverage.

I believe it does support 850Mhz, could be wrong, if someone who knows can chime in.

EDIT: Vodafones data sheet confirms it supports 850Mhz, and its on the box.

So you are on telecom correct? Do you only want to buy locally?

The spec sheet says:
3G GSM - 850/900/2100
4G LTE - 2100/1800/850/2600/900/800

HSDPA - yes
HSUPA - yes

pm - yes, on telecom -  what do you mean "buy locally"?

As in buy from an NZ store. There are a lot of phones available in that price range overseas, but not many in NZ.

pm - that's a bit risky for compatability isn't it? Do you have experience - is ebay the place to look?

No, I prefer local too, but some people swear by Chinese phones. Buying from overseas makes me too nervous despite the success stories. I am getting sorely tempted by the Lenovo Zuk Z1 or the WileyFox Swift and Storm phones. Otherwise I am waiting a month or so for the Moto G 3rd gen and Nexus 5 2015 to get here.

Needing a new phone in this price bracket too.  Currently leaning towards getting a Xiaomi redmi 2 4G, about $200 NZ from Aliexpress for the 2GB/16GB version.  Daughter has had the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G for a year and it has been trouble free with good performance, battery life and camera.  A few quibbles with the Chinese based miui heavy skin over Android.  The redmi 2 will be a smaller screen (4.7") version of that phone I reckon.

Well...have asked at 3 different Spark shops.
2 said the Prime 6 wont work on their network.
The 3rd said it should but no guarantee that it would.
I am really no further ahead.

Thanks to all who have listened.

Have you read through the thread on this phone? http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=173621&singlepage=yes

A reply from a Voda rep on this issue is at post 1331875.

There are other posts later on though from members who are using it with a Spark SIM; it may be worth asking them if it works with all parts of Spark's network.

Cheers
Jonathan
