rayonline:

Just got my mum her first smartphone.  Nexus 5 (not 5X).  Upgraded to latest OS - so marshmallow.  Phone is like now a month old she's had it, bought new.  Without WiFi on, it goes from 100% battery (freshly charged) to 88% after 2hrs.  Is this normal?  The phone just sat on the table for 2hrs, no usage, the screen was never turned on ...

In that situation after eliminating anything obvious I would give battery calibration a go. Nothing fancy just run it dead flat a few times and fully charge a few times.

Btw my impression is many phones read 100% charged but actually need a_lot longer on the charger at 100% before it really is charged to maximum.

As far as I can work out battery calibration is an urban myth. I've got about 6 batteries for my galaxy note 2 and they all have different capacities due to their relative ages etc. The ones with greatest capacity take eons to empty from 3% to 1%. Nothing ever gets calibrated.
