Yes for me the battery life is great. I don't want a micro-thin phone, I would take a fat battery over that any day. Easily go a full 24 hours plus doing everything and still have plenty charge left.

The only annoyance I found with MIUI is changes to default apps didn't always hold for some reason. Especially SMS where I like to use Google Messenger, it would sometimes use Xiaomi's one for some reason.

But a great phone with a lot of support on the MIUI and XDA forums, just wish they hadn't locked the bootloader and made it so hard to flash other roms

Had one for a few months now, great phone. Now I know two other people that have got one since seeing mine. How are you guys finding malware? I did a scan with malware bytes and it didn't return anything.

I think some vendors cook their own roms and add unwanted extras

Ok - been running this for about a month now. A couple of weeks ago I got an OTA upgrade to Android 6

Impressions:

- Damn good battery life. Real good.

- Fingerprint scanner is great and reliable

- Fast phone

Niggles (not really big enough to be problems):

- Occassionally I can't find where an app icon has gone. It's installed (if I go to the Play Store it says it's installed and I can open the app from there).

- My Garmin Vivoactive can't display SMS and incoming phone call notifications (but it will display FB messenger, Viber, emails)

- Camera photos don't seem to automatically upload to Dropbox (have correctly set it in dropbox)

- Can't seem to get permission to write to the SD Card. I can transfer from my file server to the internal memory (using ES File Explorer) and then transfer from internal to SD card but can't transfer from server to SD Card. I think I had the same problem with my Vodafone Ultra 6.

Overall a great phone for the price and I've convinced a mate to buy one too - he got his from Aliexpress and it came with the global international rom (not a vendor rom like mine did from banggood)

PSA: There's a 'Special Edition' variant of the Redmi Note 3 Pro which supports band 28 and has Marshmallow out of the box (Plus an immediate OTA to MIUI 8). Took a while to source, but we found 'em. Tested the software myself, no vendor ROM silliness.

I reckon Meizu has better design and build quality at the entry level to midrange, but you really can't argue with how much better Xiaomi's hardware specs are for comparable products. Big fan of MIUI these days too. Weekly updates on the global developer builds, regular Google security patches, and - surprisingly - some of the best long-term support in the industry, even compared to Apple, Google, and Microsoft. Only thing to be aware of is that NZ is not one of the countries you can pick as a region in initial setup, I usually go for South Africa when US and UK aren't available. Pretty random list of countries, even includes North Korea(!).
