Hi there. I am looking at buying one of these from here:

http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro-5-5-Inch-FHD-2GB-16GB-Smartphone-Qualcomm-Snapdragon-650-Hexa-Core-MIUI-V7-16-0MP-TOUCH-ID---Dark-Gray-362400.html

Just a couple of questions if anyone can help..

Has anybody brought from Geekbuying before? Was it delivered safe and sound? and also is this going to be subject to Import Duty/ GST at this price?

Any help would be good

Thanks

If total cost of the item is less than $NZ400 _including_ the shipping, then you shouldn't need to pay any duty\gst.

You're looking at about NZ$240 for the phone and I'd estimate no more than NZ$40 from YouShop (and that's assuming it's in a huge box) so well under $300.

Do they no ship directly from Geekbuying? It has an option to change shipping to New Zealand

Haven't deal with them before but the pricing seems off? Why get a 2GB model when the 3GB is the same price.

I bought mine from somewhere else but the declared value was way below what I paid so no duty ( I gather a lot of these places do this without asking), although at that listed price it shouldn't be picked up anyway

I have a 2gig redmi note 2 and it is always closing apps because of ram. Get the 3 if you can. I used these guys because they had a good rep for selling the xiaomi stuff - http://goldway.aliexpress.com/store/311331 and each of the phones I have bought for me and other people have come very quickly.

I just received my redmi note 3 pro yesterday (3gb, 32gb, snapdragon). Overall impressed with it given the price ($240)

A couple of minor niggles (so far) :

- can't set the country to nz or even Australia. It only has obscure countries like Falklands and bolivia

- no bloatware which is great however I notice chrome keeps popping up with some adware. Really annoying and I can't work out how to stop it

Any ideas?

I think I had mine set to India or Hong Kong initially. Don't think it really matters.

Didn't like MIUI in the end and flashed CM13, it works perfectly

If there's adware, you've likely received a device from a reseller that preinstalls a custom ad-filled ROM. Recommend flashing to an official ROM from Xiaomi's site ASAP, never know what else is in there.

The adware is getting really annoying now - and it's fairly dangerous stuff too (subscribe to premium text service under the guise of entering a competition)

Tried to update to official rom but it's coming up with a "couldn't verify update package" error. Figured it wouldn't be so simple

A shame as the phone is really quite nice otherwise but I'm annoyed enough to want to get rid of it.

Might try rooting it to delete the app if I knew what it was - off to google I go

The phone is bootlocked but follow the guides on the miui forums and you'll be right. Had a hard time myself but got there in the end.

Does the fingerprint scanner work with CM13?

Can't update the rom through the phone using the inbuilt updated - says it can't verify update

Tried unlocking the bootloader - received the ok from xiaomi and installed the unlock program - I get to 50% and says it can't verify it.

Time to give this a break before I throw it away....

Yes I had the exact same issue. I think you have to be on the Chinese Dev Rom first. You can get that flashed without unlocking the bootloader, can't quite remember but possibly through fastboot.

There's instructions on the forum for that. FWIW I had a terrible time figuring all this out and ended up with the worst possible bricking situation which required me to disassemble the phone, but it was all good fun :)

Well I've flashed the rom with the latest stock global rom and I'm a happy camper

I'm really impressed with the phone - still getting use to Miui but it's got some nifty gimmicks such as second screen (like a second desktop so you can have one for work, one personal), and dual app so you can have the same app running twice - e.g. two whatsapp apps with different users. YMMV but it's clear they've made an effort in differentiating themselves from other android phones.

The phone (snapdragon version) runs fast and the fingerprint scanner is nice. Battery life is good too.

In summary, a $700 phone for $250 - as long as it's running the stock rom (or CM) and not the crappy vendor ad-infested rom
