I'm thinking about the S8 but the way Samsung do their updates does my head in; My wife's new Mate 9 has had 3 updates since late Dec along with the Google Security updates and they don't seem to have this carrier enforced handbrake basically like Apple who don't have it either.

God I am tempted to pull the trigger on the M9, but I NEED the pro.

I am also in two minds about the s8. For months I have been waiting for 3rd party notifications on their Always on display (like the note7 had) on my s7 edge yet it still has not been enabled as they want to do it with android N update, which is still not here.

I'm at the stage where I would pay samsung a fee for fast updates to new android versions and not sit here waiting months.

They do make great phones with everything I need in a phone (great IP rating, wireless charging, best bluetooth I have come across). But I just can't stand there slow updates.

Guess this is what happens when you flood the market with some many different phones at different price points and then different firmware for each telco around the world.

Right there with you. I get that Samsung might not roll Nougat to all of its phones straight away, but having to wait months to get the latest update on their flagship phone is beyond ridiculous. When you buy a phone, it is reasonable to think that it will be kept up to date. Unfortunately, Samsung clearly doesn't see it that way.

Sony NZ users have just had their aging Z5's updated, while I still wait for Samsung to update their newest flagship!

This will be my last Samsung phone - yes the hardware is fantastic on release, but then you are then pretty much stuck with the same OS version for the life of the phone.

Next year, Sony or 2nd gen Pixel, me thinks.

It appears to be only stopped in China. The roll out continues and is currently happening in the UK

Yep, tempted to flash the BTU firmware to get nougat. I am on XEU (which is the UK/Ireland CSC) which has missed the first cut. Had tried the 1st beta and was impressed with it.

Agree this is really turning me off Samsung in the future. Largest OEM in the world and they are hands down the worst when it comes to updates.

They really need to simplify their range.

Without a doubt if the Pixel 2 is available in New Zealand and 2degrees adds it to their TradeUp program, I'll be going that way.

Without a doubt if the Pixel 2 is available in New Zealand and 2degrees adds it to their TradeUp program, I'll be going that way.

I'm the same will see what the pixel 2 if like and that might be the next phone.

Currently have an s7 edge, one plus 3 and a sony xz (which i just got this weekend and really like).

Selling the s7 edge now however as I really don't need 3 phones lol.

One thing that is so disappointing however after having a oneplus 3 and dash charge is the time it takes to charge other phones.

An example of the charging speed is my travel home from work, both the oneplus 3 and sony will be on around the 40/50% mark when i leave, by time I get home the oneplus with dash charging will be in the low 90's the sony yesterday was only on 61%

Never fear guys, I just got pushed an OTA update to the 1st December 2016 security patch. We are clearly in good hands. I wonder when I'll get the patch for this that was released on the 5th of December? Oh well, I'll try again next month.

Odin packages are available now if anyone is interested. Looking at update history, BTU like the aussie XSA seems to get more updates than the local carrier ones.
