No it doesn't work via the Google app. Assistant replaces now on tap so you may need to create a shortcut to a button if you don't already have it set.

Ok Google triggers the assistant, unless I'm missing what you're saying here.

If you've got trusted voice set up or have enabled it already. Default is turned off IIRC.

Ah... this was the reason I loaded the full-pixel mod on my 6p. Trusted voice works well for me.

When I first got it going (earlier this year), my daughter had a blast interacting with GA. I had to create a new user on my phone for her. Try saying "I'm bored!".

Silly question, but how do you change the language? Is this the one in "Inputs & Langugages"?

I currently have that set to English (New Zealand). Do I need to change that to English (US)?

I'm not sure, but if Google has released it for NZ, I'd fully expect it to work for English (NZ).

Yes you need English US as the primary language on the phone, you can still keep English NZ, as long as US is the default or main. Settings may differ slightly by phone.

Assistant only support US. Aust, Canada, NZ and UK English support are due soon.

Yes I just switched my language to English (US) and Google assistant is now on. Tried switching to English (NZ) but it stopped working.

How do you know if you have it?

It'll be where now on tap was. Normally found by holding down your home button.

been using android for years, never knew holding down the home button did anything :)

problem im having at the moment is the way google assistant names things.

Ive been using "ok google" since i got the ohone and a shopping list is called shopping list, but google assistant calls it "google assistant shopping list". even when you just say add xyz to shopping list it still throws it on the "google assistant shopping list".

cool, but your doing the same thing in the same echo system, put them on the same list.
