Linux: Handset software is not created equal and carriers have different setups if I was you flash vfnz handset software from Sam mobile it's simple and I have never had an issue

Edit: Your issue might be the band scan used by Spark compared to VodafoneNZ

This thread suggests flashing vodafone firmware may not be straightforward or successful:

I have done it many times no issue you just need to make sure you follow the steps bring it to me I can almost do it with my eyes shut

The note 8 is a little different with firmware than the s8 and S8+ these are fine to flash from spark to vodafone etc.

@matisayu, I'm on vodafone but it is not a vodafone issue other than I have a SureSignal device that it switches to for voice calls via 3g UMTS.

I've seen S8 text delays or loss attributed to the device's battery saver s/w switching off text services temporarily.

The funny thing, I did a hard reset and set it up but didn't install the 'carrier services' from the Play Store - everything is going well. Placebo?

Ran ok for two days on 3g only and then lost 3g connectivity - 4g/2g still working when set to auto. Again restored 3g only by restarting the phone. Seems like a firmware problem to me.

@Alan2 Did you mention you have a Sure Signal unit as well? If you have turn this off for about 20 minutes then power it back up again and also check it has the latest software version from Vodafone, You need to call the fixed line team with the serial number of the Sure Signal unit

Yes, I have a SureSignal model V2-V and the firmware will be old now. However previously while my S8 was not recognising it I was able to connect to it with an iPhone 4.

How can I check the firmware version?

This is why you power down the unit for about 20 minutes then it should download the latest software version but it pays to check after that it has downloaded and installed it and this can be done by the fixed line team, If not they can push it out
