tripp:

I do miss the old days of sony (Z3 days) they had something great but they did not improve on it (in some cases removed things on the next model) and just kept the same look when others jumped out ahead.

This. I loved my Z3 and was gutted when I managed to drown it while kayaking. The Z5 is good, but starting to get a bit long in the tooth now and I'm eager to look at something new, preferably with headphone jack smile

Agree with all comments. I am a Sony fan - my Z2 was my favourite phone of all time. Loved Sony's omnibalance design and was simply waiting for them to reduce the bezels. They did this, but they also ditched omnibalance, scrapped the all metal body for a glass back, curved it so it doesn't even sit flat, then dropped the 3.5 aux jack to boot. Insult to injury, they introduced stupid features like vibrating the phone to sound. Reluctantly, I have now finally given up on Sony mobile.

My next phone? I'm not interested in the Galaxy S9, so am thinking Nokia as I really like their approach to keeping android vanilla. I also like what I seeing with the upcoming Huawei P20 - the hardware looks outstanding, but I have concerns about their UI overlay - and reported (on GZ) problems with Huawei's Bluetooth connectivity and slow updates.

I'm just playing a waiting game now - I'll see what the pans out in the next few months.

Unbelievable, the headphones Sony bundle with the XZ2 are 3.5mm aux - yep, designed to be used with the very connector they dumped from the phone. Lucky for purchasers, Sony also bundle an additional dongle so you can connect the headphones they give you with the phone!

Doh! That's an epic fail. They could've at least provided a USB headset

I have finally decided to have no more Sony, been supporting them for years since SE days and now these new flagships are just rubbish. Dropping the headphone jack is just stupid and Apple arent the trend setters it should be Sony like they have always been.

Moving to the Nokia 7 Plus and preordering one from Amazon UK and shipping it over from family as I cant wait anymore and NZ being NZ wont get the 7 plus til ages!!!

A highly disappointed long term Sony user

The front with 16:9 display. Wish they had reduced the bezel as it just looks old now.

It's unlike me to have not jumped on the XZ2 yet, XZ2P might be the one though :-)

Looks old, fat and heavy.

Insult to injury, they've reintroduced the large top and bottom bezels.

Pass.

Pretty intrigued by XZ2 Premium. While the smaller XZ2 is awfully HTC and a sharp departure from Sony design and featureset of old, the XZ2 Premium ticks a lot of boxes. Was initially concerned it was 5.7" 18:9 which would make it both vastly too small for my needs and poorly differentiated from the regular flavour XZ2, but it's 16:9, big enough, and looks delightfully like a small Bravia. Sony's first dual camera shows promise, especially since it uses the superior (to my mind) Huawei-style pairing of RGB + monochrome sensors rather than the dubiously useful optical zoom. Stereo speakers, advanced haptics - these are not to be underestimated - wireless charging, beefy 4K HDR display with a sizable battery, this device is exciting. While I love Sony's design and features, they've always come so close and not quite for my personal needs ever since the original Z Ultra. This could finally be the Xperia for me. Fingers crossed.

Any news on a new zealand release? Would be a pity to miss out on another decent android brand here, we already lack 1+, honor, xiaomi, and google pixel.

Do it!

I'm sure @scottjpalmer and I tripled the sales of Xperia handsets in NZ this year with our purchases!

Sony have actually pulled the plug on the NZ market at the moment and aren't actually bringing any more handsets in. The PB Tech ones are parallel imported, and the dual SIM is a higher spec phone (extra 2GB RAM) than the single SIM that was sold locally.

That's a great price! It would've been better with 128GB storage, but nevertheless, still pretty decent!
