JB Australia won’t deliver to NZ though, so you’d need to sort that out.

For reference only - anything coming here likely to be more expensive, potentially significantly more based on exchange rates - the direct NZD equivalent pricing based on AU RRPs would be:

Since the $AU/$NZ has remained pretty static at approx 0.91 for quite a while, then the main difference is 15% GST vs 10%.
PBTech effectively become their own importer/wholesaler and will add a margin for that. But that margin is then easily identifiable.

Local warranty is not a cheap thing to provide with zero vendor support. :)

But nik! Till I'm wanting warranty... Your overcharging me gawd how could you!

That's awesome if JB HiFi in NZ really do work out warranties on stuff purchased from a JB store in Australia... I think that's my best option so far then!

I know JB Australia don't ship electronics internationally but I've got a friend coming over from Melbourne in later November so right now I think the plan will be to get him to pick up the Pixel 3 and Pixel Stand from JB. Then probably Amazon for cases and screen protectors, or maybe I order those through Google AU and send them to him too.

I'd usually wait for PB Tech but my current phone is driving me up the wall and I don't think I can wait much longer!

I am in a very similar boat. My iPhone 6 is very much on it's way out and the cost of replacing the battery isn't worthwhile given that I am planning to pick up a Pixel 3 anyway and likely won't add it's cost back to the resale value.

I'd much rather purchase from PB Tech (I get most of my stuff from them and love their customer service) but if they aren't looking likely to stock it (or at least not for a while) I may just have to go with another store because the battery problems with my current device have gone from being an annoyance to an active day-to-day problem, so I am not wanting to wait too long.

Same here, my Xperia Z5 died and I've been using a ZTE Blade L110 (AKA Spark Lite 3G) which is the most stressful phone I've ever used..but wanted to spend as little as possible because I knew the Pixel 3 was coming soon.

But I've never had a phone lag while trying to put your pin in to unlock the screen before it's so bad.

Hopefully don't have to wait too much longer, or at least until this phone ends up through a 6th floor window.

Just as an FYI for anyone else who is waiting to pick up a Pixel 3, with the release of the phone in Aus I figured it'd be worth rechecking with PB Tech and was told that, as of this morning, they "...don't have any information on if we will be getting it sometime soon.".

I had hoped to go PB for this purchase as they've always been great in my experience however, at this stage, it looks like I'll just grab it from the first reputable store that lists it rather than waiting an indeterminate amount of time as my current phone is down to a screen on battery life of about 1/2 hours and it could well be a while before PB Tech sell the phone (if they stock it at all).

Dick Smith have it listed as "Coming soon" although I am slightly sceptical about the quality of their service.

I'm also interested in buying a Pixel 3 from JB Hi-Fi Australia and bringing it back home to New Zealand. It looks like this might be the best way to do it.

Two questions though. Does anyone actually have experience with making a warranty claim at JB Hi-Fi NZ for something purchased in Australia? How would that work? I assume they would have to send the phone to a repair place in Australia.

Secondly, how would you recommend dealing with GST at the border? The most honest thing to do would be to claim back the 10% GST when leaving Australia, then pay 15% GST when entering New Zealand. I'm happy to do this. But would it just be the 15% GST, or would there also be that additional $60 fee, like there is for paying duty on international parcels? That would make it about 20% when entering New Zealand.

I don't think you need to pay 15% GST back again in NZ if someone is bringing the phone with them from Aus. This is what I did when I bought the first gen Pixel XL through a friend who traveled to Sydney that time. She bought the Pixel XL from JB Hifi Sydney airport (duty free) and carried it over here in luggage. I think that how it is supposed to work as well.

Any Geekzoners got their hands on one yet?

My Pixel 3 XL is due at YouShop on the 8th (US time). (It has left MIRA LOMA, CA US)

I am very lucky to have a buyer for my Pixel 2 XL otherwise SWMBO would not have approved.

Here's how I've got on!

I've ordered a case and a screen protector from Amazon, and jsut today I confirmed my order through JB HiFi Australia of the Pixel 3 and Pixel STand, paid with my NZ card and delivered to my friend in Melbourne who's coming over later in the month.

Back on the tax thing, if he leaves them in the box (they're fragile items!) do you think he'd need to declare that they are a gift? Does he need to do anything, or simply put the boxes in his suitcase and come on through?

  1. I think that phones (with a battery) have to be in your carry on luggage.
  2. Also, I think to avoid the duty/tax the carrier needs to convince customs that it is for their own use so un-boxing is recommended.

Is there any difference between the US version and the Australian version (apart from the plug on the charger) this year? My previous phone was a Nexus 6P and I remember that the US version and the NZ/International version supported different LTE bands. Is that still the case?

Regardless of gift, it has to be declared.

goods obtained overseas and/or purchased duty-free in NZ with a total value of more than NZ$700 (including gifts)

Doh!

Unfortunately my stored YouShop address with Google Store is out of date.

FedEx tracking now reports "Incorrect address - Recipient moved"

Now FedEx require Google to advise of new address (they can't take my word for it).

At least google didn't cancel your order like they did mine.

Obviously realised I was sending to a forwarding company.
