DND mutes all notifications and vibrations only. If that isn't what you want, use the silence notifications option as mentioned eaarlier, rather than DND.

There is a further alternative available, hidden in the settings menu...

Mute all sounds, including earpiece, so you wont hear anything even during a call...Just like there is no speaker or sounder. The phone is silent in every way.

Maybe this option will meet your needs. On the Samsung S8 you go to Settings/Accessibility/Hearing Enhancements/Mute all sounds. There is no indication on the main screen you have selected this, so don't forget to re-enable it if you want to use your phone later for a call!

This may well be how DND is supposed to work, but there is simply no argument that it's not how it has been functioning on my and - going by the Reddit thread - some other people's Samsung watch up until an update earlier this month. I've had a Samsung watch for over three years - it's functioned liked this for as long as I can recall.

It could be that Samsung have now fixed this 'fault', and those of us who have enjoyed an incorrect implementation of DND in relation to its watches will have to find alternatives; as I've posted, I have indeed found an alternative of automatically setting the phone to no ringtone/notification tone, instead of it automatically enabling DND.

jonathan18:

I checked out the Reddit thread that @johny007g linked to above again this morning, and found a new post suggesting downgrading the Galaxy Watch Plugin app fixed the problem - I'm assuming it was introduced in the May 10 update (https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/comments/bqhsat/notifications_not_forwarded_to_galaxy_watch_when/ep9vsel/).

So I decided to give it a go; it wouldn't let me downgrade the app without uninstalling the original. Once the earlier version was installed it forced a reset of the watch, damn it!

But I can confirm it restores the original functionality - with the phone set to DND I once again get notifications on my watch.

And just after doing this I got a notification saying the new firmware with One UI is ready to download; unsure if this will fix or re-break the issue, but I did see a report that this update does cause battery issues. I may hold off with this until I'm sure it's an improvement.

In wearable app as reddit people said there used to be sync do not disturb setting which was taken out(possibly on May 10th Update) but on updating watch One UI that
setting is back there under sync phone settings. Possibly downgrading watch plugin app has put setting back, One UI definitely better but don't think you could downgrade
watch update so might be back with same problem.

The interesting thing is, though, I have never seen this setting and still can't find it now in the app, even though the DND issue is sorted.

The 'problem' was also resolved by downgrading the Galaxy Watch Plugin, as opposed to the actual Galaxy Wearable app; does the former amend the options/settings available in the latter to reflect the different watch type? And do you happen to know where that setting was in the app? I'd have expected the notifications tab, or if not advanced.

Thanks!

I don't know whether it would show in downgraded version but it is in galaxy wearable app when you scroll down towards bottom of home page and i know on previous version only had sync phone settings and the on one ui version click on sync phone settings 2 settings sync dnd and wifi networks are there.

Thanks; good to know where it would otherwise show up, but currently in the Galaxy Wearable app there's only the 'sync wifi profiles' option.
