ASBBank:

NZLion:

scottjpalmer: I saw it as a notification in the app

Really? I have not had any notification to that effect. The only notice I've seen of anything to do with this was the email... which just tells me Google Pay is available, how to set it up, and how to use it.

scottjpalmer: Benefit or not, you've got a month to change or you lose the functionality.

This thread remains the only place I've seen that information. It wasn't in the email, I didn't get notified in the app, and the ASB article makes no reference to the end of the existing virtual card option. I'm a lot less concerned about the impending end than I am about not being advised by the bank.

Hi NZLion, can we ask you to double check the email you received and let us know what is in the second paragraph? It should refer to ASB Virtual but if it doesn't then we can investigate further. Thank you!

I'm same as NZLion. Zip, Zero, Zilch No reference to end of Visa Virtual

Hi Terence

Google Pay is now available at ASB, so you can pay your way in-store or in-app using your Android phone. To get set up, follow the simple instructions below.

Here's how to get set up.

Select 'Cards & devices' through the menu on the top left corner of your ASB Mobile Banking app (make sure it's the most up-to-date version).

Select the card you want to link to Google Pay.

Tap on the Add to Google Pay option and follow the prompts.

A quick heads up.

To tap and pay using your phone, you'll need to turn on NFC (Near-field communication). To do that, search 'NFC' in your phone settings.

It's safe and seamless to use.

Google Pay is accepted at millions of places around the world, with the information of each payment protected with multiple layers of security to help keep your account safe.

Look for the Google Pay or contactless payment symbols.

Unlock your phone.

Hold over the terminal and wait for the check mark.

Kind regards

The team at ASB

From asb@mail.asb.co.nz, though the "reply-to" was different, which may have upset your spam filters?

My mail was identical to ubernoob's... Other than the name

Last thing from that address is last year about my kiwisaver so I guess they havent bothered to email me.

There is no notifications on the bell thing in the app. I do recall that something prevented me from using it after doing my fingerprint at some stage recently but I just quit the app and went in again. Perhaps it was just slow to load a notice about something and now considers it to be shown?

Trying to use my virtual this morning netted me a "card issuer declined" message, so it seems like the July date might be more of a best case scenario

Interesting, still no response on here, and I still can't see anywhere in the links nor the app that advise it was disappearing, although, I was notified in the app that it was removed from my phone when I replaced it with GPay. An ASB person I spoke to wasn't aware either, although, not their department.

Ahem... was bashing around in the ASB going "Stupid app - no GPay option!!"

And then realised I hadn't installed GPay.

So yeah - do that if you haven't already and then follow the instructions and all will be well :)

I just added Google Pay to my Moto G4 +  to my ASB Visa OK but when I installed the app  I found there is no NFC  ability on this phone. Ah well next phone I guess.

There will be a further wave of comms to come but here is the notice on our website if that helps. https://www.asb.co.nz/credit-cards/contactless-payments/asb-virtual.html

Used it for the first time this morning, was notably faster....

Keen to test it out at my local servo next, their unit always was a little dodgy with NFC payments.

Setup and linking want so easily. i didnt even have google pay app on the phone itself at the time.

I got notifed by @ASBBank on Twitter, because I couple of weeks ago I discovered it was coming when I tried to add my card and got a ASB & Google Pay Terms and Conditions page displayed on my phone.

Once I tweeted "Is it coming?" I was told "We haven nothing to announce yet" and the page was quickly replaced with a single "."

Glad it's here though, but yes, functional difference on the phone is minimal, except it pops up to tell you after you've paid using it that you did so.
