My additional thought is if Apple was really concerned about the environment and e-waste, then they should have introduced USB Type C on iPhones a long time ago, rather than sticking with lightning port, this also in turn creates unnecessary waste on the lightning cables.

Or another view is that Apple buyers have vested a lot in lightening accessories and so have many of the suppliers that Apple felt a sudden change to USB-C would have dumped a lot of e-waste at the landfills and irked a lot of their customers and suppliers.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Didn't seem to trouble Apple last time.

This has little to do with E-waste, its all about accountants... If they remove the charge from the box, they can make the box much thinner, ( potentially half as thin) , that's potentially up to twice and many phones on a pallet,- meaning much more $ per metric metre of shipping space. - let along cutting out the cost of a charging brick is ( although it will be minimal)
yeah, they will talk about waste and the environment, but if it saves them $$$ It goes to the head of the class
On the would not bother me band wagon, wireless charges up the wazoo as well as bricks and cables.
