My boss has some philosophical objection to Google Pay (her prerogative - I use it all the time since finally figuring out how to get rid of the "too many cards" error message) so she just has the emailed PDF saved on her phone and a shortcut to it on her home screen. I just clicked the link in the email. The pass was added to Google Pay and asked me if I wanted the home screen shortcut as well. Seemed to all work pretty quickly and easily.

Just curious how you fixed the "too many cards" error message, my partner has the same problem, she uses one of those wallet cases with her cards in it so I figure that's the problem.

Any Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 users managed to get the Pass to load into Google Pay on the Watch?

I use Opera as the default browser and installed with no problems.

Last night installed the passes for in-laws and our daughter - Huawei, OPPO and Nokia phones. Just worked.

I'm using StocCard instead.  It's one of my lock screen shortcuts already so made sense.  Only requires one sign in from lock screen, whereas Pay requires two from lock screen.

The only downside is that Stocard doesn't show my name or expiry date, just the govt issued QR code.  But if anyone wants to see the extra detail, I can open it via Pay.  I expect most business will just scan the QR code with the verify app and then maybe some will ask for ID.

Boarding planes is going to be interesting ... double the time to scan on, maybe triple as people have to switch apps then switch back to the boarding pass at the plane to show the cabin crew.

In the email I click Gpay save to phone.

It takes me to a page saying 'open in google pay'.

Clicking on that takes me to My Vaccine Pass where I can click continue to add the covid-19 card to my device.

Clicking continue takes me back to the previous step - 'open in google pay'.

I keep going round and round.

Looking at the help in the email I have checked that Gpay is play protect certified and that Gpay is allowed to open supported links.

I have also tried restarting my phone and reinstalling Gpay.

Any ideas what else I can try?

What security are you using? Finger print or pin or pattern?

I had this issue, I was using my pin to confirm the security and it was going back to the previous set, but when I used my fingerprint it worked.

So obviously it was relying on the primary security identification.

I was using a pattern.

I just changed it to a PIN and the same thing happens.

To be clear, it isn't asking me to confirm security, it bounces back as soon as I hit continue.

Behodar:

I tried to help my dad set this up over the weekend and while everything appeared to work as normal (it asked him to confirm he wanted to add it, asked for his PIN, etc.) the actual QR code just came up as a blank square. There were also some 'placeholders' that looked like they should contain name/DOB (assuming it works like the iOS one) but they were also blank. Has anyone run into that?

I had something similar to this happen when setting it up on my wife's phone a couple of days ago.  Eventually figured out that face recognition, which she never uses, was turned on (thanks to my 'helpful' eldest son turning this on two years ago...), and it kept failing as it didn't recognise me (makes sense), but then it wouldn't accept the passcode/swipe option instead.  Once I turned face recognition off, it all then behaved properly with the passcode/swipe, and the card displayed correctly.

Hope that potentially helps solve your problem.

Usually when you click continue to add to Google Pay it should prompt you for whatever security option you use to secure your device.

Do you have anything else like face recognition. Because it seems to be the security prompt or lack there of.

Also make sure you have already opened Google Pay on your device.

The same thing happens on my wife's phone. PIN protected and stock. My phone is rooted with custom firmware and fingerprint access, didn't have any problem. Keeping an eye on this thread for other ideas. (I also printed and laminated cards for the family, already had an uncle's home screen shortcut disappear).

Open your email (webmail) via chrome on your phone.  I had to do this on my wifes phone, as the link from Gmail opened in Samsung internet, which gave a permission error (worked ok on mine, though i run the beta samsung internet).  others have had issues with firefox also.  give it a go via Chrome 👍🏽

Thanks, yes have tried pasting the link into Chrome as well as opening from Gmail in Chrome. Choosing to open the link in Chrome does nothing, opening in Google Pay just does the "Open in Google Pay", "Continue" loop.

I'm not going to say it isn't your partner's additional physical cards (I guess it would be pretty easy to test that by taking the phone out of the wallet next time you try to use Google Pay).

I had it all set up and working fine on my last phone (an old HTC 10) with two credit cards and a debit Visa loaded into it. Nearly two years ago I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus and after about a week I tried setting up Google Pay on it. Even with the phone in no type of case or wallet at all, and only one credit card loaded on it, I got the "too many cards" message. I did quite a bit of googling at the time but couldn't find anything that explained it. Then I forgot about it for about 9 months or so, but eventually got around to looking into it again. Here's what I found...

Long-pressing the NFC icon to open the "NFC and contactless payment" settings showed a button at the top of the screen to turn NFC on and off, and a menu item at the bottom of the screen called "Contactless payments". Pressing that menu item opened a screen with a list of contactless payment services. Mine showed both Google Pay and Samsung Pay, and the radio buttons for both services were blue, like they were both selected, which I wouldn't have thought was possible, but anyway...

When I clicked on Google Pay in the list of services, the radio button for Samsung Play greyed out, then the service disappeared from the screen altogether. And the next time I tried to use Google Pay it worked perfectly.

After that I went to fix it on my wife's phone (an older Galaxy S10) as she had the same error. All the steps were exactly the same, except the Samsung Pay radio button wasn't selected for her - both services were on the list but only the Google Pay radio button was blue. But I clicked on Samsung Pay (which switched which service was active) then back on Google Pay (after which Samsung Pay disappeared from the list), then Google Pay worked when she tried using it the next day.

Good luck!

My wife is using Stocard as she has never used and doesn't want to have a password on her phone. I'm also using a different wallet/card app.

I don't see that not having your name or expiry date displayed in the wallet app (e.g. Stocard) is a problem.  When the code is scanned they see all the detail that is on the paper version/and or what is saved in the Google Pay wallet.

IMO for the passport to be effective it has to be scanned not just viewed. It's too easy to change the printed details like name and validity dates where as making a valid QR code with changed names/dates is somewhat trickier.
