Based on my efforts with a Sony Xperia last year, I think there's more to it than just Google enabling it. I gave up trying firmware variants which seemingly had it enabled overseas, it still wouldn't enable here.

It most definitely is Google not enabling it - whether that's because of regulatory, worldwide cell band compatibility, or some other red tape they're not willing to cross, who knows.

They will enable it eventually, but who knows how much time that will take. Could be next month, could be when Android 13 drops, could be when Pixel 7 line drops, heck probably even in a year or two lol.

That's encouraging. I wonder if it works for the Pixel 4XL also since it should be eligible for 13 Beta. If that is the case I could be encouraged to move from Vodafone if I can find an equivalent plan

After getting the user to go into his phone information volte is definitely active. Looks like Android 13 very promising for us NZ Pixel owners.

If this is real and stays for 13 final (due August I believe), perhaps someone like pbtech (@NikT) could consider stocking...

Hope so. I'm not holding my breath. I'm interested to know if it gets 5G on non-official carriers.

This tells you not much. Make a call see if it remains on 4G during the call. That's the test.

May need to ask Spark to activate volte on your number
I needed to with mine (volte enabled via root)

Some hope here possibly? July update supports VoLTE on APAC Carriers.

Already running 13 beta on my Pixel 6 and no improvement on Voda, will try this July Android 12 update on my wife's Pixel 6 on 2Degrees and my Daughter's Pixel 4 XL

Last time when I asked Spark tried and it was not effective. This time when I asked end result after usual misleadingness and false starts Spark referred me to the Spark supported voLTE model list and refused to try enable. This was not a surprise to me. The agents were pleasant and helpful just long-winded and as I expected no result.
