gzt: Support life is four years of o/s updates plus one year security. Not bad. I've spent my phone money on other things this year already. Does it get voWifi from NZ carriers?

Yeah 4 years isn't as good as the 7 from Samsung for the S24, but I doubt many people keep their devices for much more than 4.  And yes, the global variant should support both Wifi calling and VoLTE.

It's a really good price phone, pretty crazy actually.

I was just looking at what the Pixel 8P would cost me if I wanted the same specs as the OnePlus 12 and it would be about $1,200 USD and when you then account for a screen protector and charger it starts nearing $1,300. I think overall it would be a step down in performance with the Snap Dragon Gen 3 being super fast. And also the OP12 display is incredible, I watched two movies on it so far and my reference is my 77" LG G3.

The spec list is long that's for sure.

- HDR 10+
- HDRVivid
- Dolby Vision
- DisplayMate A+

I have no idea what two of those things are but the other two are impressive they went to that trouble for a phone.

Indeed. And the phone has Dolby Atmos license already paid in the OS.

The display got Displaymates highest score ever:

I had a 16 hour flight a bit ago and used the OP12 on a seat clip attachment and really enjoyed watching movies.

Mate the 8P isn't a step down in performance, it's 2 or 3 steps down. Google really dropped the ball with that processor, it's awful.

Google relies on Tensor for 'AI stuff'

It's not a direct comparison and centers around things google prioritizes.

But yeah if there is really something you do daily and rely on that needs performance in a particular area then make the right choice..

Yea, OP12 is great for raw power. I've been playing emulators on it without any skip.

Can confirm both Wifi calling and VoLTE are working fine on 2degrees.  Initial impressions of the device are really good - screen and performance are crazy-good and battery life is as good as you've heard - reasonable use over the weekend still saw me through each day with over half the battery left.

Just to confirm, are you saying that 2Degrees Wifi calling works on the Oneplus 12?   Do you / anyone know if this expands to the rest of the OnePlus range?  (The 2Degrees list of supported phones is almost 2 years out of date and does not have any Oneplus devices.   On the other hand it has a few Oppo devices).   I am dead keen to get a  non-samsung phone I can root and also have WIFI calling (and an AMOLED screen and decentish cameras)

Correct - so long as the phone has the right hardware bands for VoLTE on your chosen network, and VoLTE and Wifi Calling are included in the model's firmware, it should work with any recent Android handset.  Anything running Android 11 or newer should be sweet.

OnePlus for a while if you dumped their roms have included experimental configs for all NZ carriers for VoLTE and VoWiFI.

I asked bexectech for specifics about the region lock but they only said "we only sell 100% unlocked phones". That's not the wrong answer but it's not the depth I was looking for either.

I'm aiming for the 12R model atm cause it seems like 95% the phone of the 12.
The S23 plus is another I'm considering but getting it used from one of these sites worries me that it'd be a display unit that's been plugged in for over a year, fking the battery.

Also, I'm selling my 1yo Asus zenfone 9 on trdme. Time to move on I think.

The lack of wireless charging rules out the OP12R for me, but it's personal preference of course.  The fact you can pick up a 12/256 OP12 now for $1250 in NZ means it's a killer price for so much phone.  I just ordered a Galaxy S24 plus for my wife and it was $2,000!

I'd go with the full on 12. Pretty crazy phone. I got mine for $600 in the USA. I use it more as a laptop / tablet, but it's great.

Yeah the more I look at it now the R is only 85% the phone. 12 it is. the Sammie's prices are nuts now hey!
Where would you get a 12 if price and speed of arrival (I wonder if they have any locally, prob only in Aus at best) was the main factor. Bexectech is 1229 and I kinda trust em xD
