Interesting, thanks for taking the time to reply. I am looking for a relatively bloat free phone, although I suppose there are ways to deal with that if I were to get a Samsung.

I have just had a look at AusFF. Seems I must have used them in the past at some stage as I already have an account setup. Thank goodness for password managers :)

Today's QPR2 beta 3 update for Pixels includes a fix for users in NZ unable to access 6ghz wi-fi networks.

I can't believe they fixed (and published) a fault for a country they don't sell Pixels in.

Hopefully this means we might not be 3rd class citizens anymore?

That said I'm pretty close to moving away from Pixel, given how F-You Google have become recently (not that the big Fruit is any better, but everyone else in my family is on FruityFone and the reasons for staying on Pixel are eroding fast)

Hoping that includes hotspot ability.

I did find it bizarre how it was locked off.

We're a halfway nation. We get official 5G support but no retail offering. It's weird but at least we're not actively blocked!

I used it plenty on my 7Pro and it's right there working on my 10Pro? On 2Degrees anyway.

I know some mobile plans lock it (and stuff the telcos for doing that too) but haven't heard of Google blocking it here.

Telcos don't block hotspot capability.

And I definitely know as an ex One NZer and the plan that I'm on, using a 6ghz hotspot is not possible on a 9 Pro XL and it's not because of One NZ.

Worked absolutely fine on a OnePlus 12.

It's definitely still Google blocking 6ghz specifically which hopefully is fixed soon thanks to the above news.

Oh sorry I misunderstood, I thought you were referring to all hotspots. But yes ok 6ghz makes sense!

I have seen telcos advertising hotspot capability with some plans as a 'benefit', and I know overseas that it has been a trick they pull. It seems that in NZ it is mostly related to unlimited plans: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=42&topicid=225908

How are people getting with their Pixel 10's in NZ? I bought mine (Pixel 10 Pro) in France. I'm now with Skinny in NZ. But I don't seem to get 5G so far. Am I doing something wrong?

Very happy with the phone. Great camera and the UI is very nice (although I wish I could move home screens around like with Samsung phones) Not sure about 6 GHz WiFi - will look into that.

I do wish that Google supported more of the AI features of the phone in NZ. Gemini Live with video is pretty insane. I got a few comments from strangers in Europe when I was using it to tell me about old buildings, paintings etc.

Probably not provisioned. What was your last device?  Spark as far as I remember, only provision for known devices but I imagine the pixel 10 pro should just work...

It was an ancient Samsung Galaxy S9. Not 5G. Maybe that's the reason? How do I change that? Do I need a new SIM?

You're probably missing a lot. I have tagged the right person who can help with this :)

Thanks.

Actually, I think I am missing a lot of the on-device AI stuff. I'm working through that. Gemini is telling me to install/uninstall my main Google account to fix this.

Are the QPR2 beta updates worth signing up for?

I'm trying to figure out what to replace my P3 with due to the 3G switch off next month.  I don't use a phone very much so secondhand will be fine.  I definitely want to stay with Pixels and I want one that's as similar a size and weight to the P3 as I can get.  I thought a P5 would do the job but having bought one I find that VoLTE isn't provisioned on it 😬

I'm with the Warehouse and my SIM is pretty damn old.  Might a new SIM solve the problem?

Alternatively, I see on 2degrees that the P6 will do VoLTE overseas.  Does that mean it'll work here?  Is there anyone out there who is getting VoLTE on 2degrees with a P6?  Or do I need to go up the range a bit further?

Huge TIA 😀
