I'll ask the stupid question. How sure are you it will work after the 3G shutdown?
all Pixels 6 and up will work after the 3g shutdown
Isn't that contrary to a few threads on here then? Is Google loaded the carrier profiles for NZ?

Nothing earlier

All three carriers?
Any views expressed on these forums are my own and don't necessarily reflect those of my employer.
In doing my own reading on the matter of pixel phones and nz carrier profiles.
https://www.spark.co.nz/help/mobile/device-help/device_compatibility_list/
lists the pixel 6 up to pixel 9 (but not the 9a yet - I guess though they most likely haven't updated the list recently rather than the profile not being present on the 9a though).
https://www.2degrees.nz/help/mobile-help/calling-features/phones-compatible-with-volte-and-wifi-calling
lists pixel 6 up to pixel 8. Again though I'd guess they haven't updated the list recently since it seems unlikely to me that google would have removed profiles that they were previously shipping.
https://one.nz/our-networks/volte/#voltecapable
Doesn't list pixel phones. But that may be a case of one.nz not listing phones that they don't sell. Rather than pixel phones not having the right profile?

Thanks everyone, it sounds like the phone will at least work but I will also get 0 support from the seller if anything goes wrong.
I think Im going to take me chances because Im not really a fan of any of the other options.

I mentioned earlier I went through a similar dilemma two years ago. I'd used LG phones which I really liked. But knew of the pending shutdown. So was left really with Samsung and Oppo.
Remarkably my Samsung Flip has not only been the most expensive phone I've owned, but it's also been fixed twice under warranty. I happen to live fairly close to Samsung's service centre, but I'd be annoyed if I'd tried to import a phone and had the same issue.
Some stuff I don't mind importing, where the risk of failure is low (like some golf gear or bits for my mountain bike) where I'll just the swallow the cost of it breaks. But for a device costing four figures and being used everyday, I wanted local support.
And to be honest, for me, phones have just turned into an appliance. The last couple sat in their box for a couple of weeks before I could be bothered setting them up. A new or replacement device is not a seemless experience compared to Apple.
What do you do if the Pixel doesn't work properly?

Probably the usual stages of grief,
Be upset that my shiny new phone broke
Point out to the vendor their obligations under the CGA and report them to the commerce commissions when they tell me to go away
Attempt to do a credit card charge back
Accept defeat and go and buy an iPhone
