Paul O'Brien (Modaco.com) has also made a rooted image of the Froyo update available. It has no pre-reqs, so if you have rooted your Nexus One, you just wipe from recovery and flash Paul's update.zip and - presto - you've installed Android v2.2.

I'm downloading it now for use on my other (rooted) N1. :-)

Has anyone moved from the Desire Port to Froyo? I am worried I will miss all the Sense UI goodness but it sounds like its worth it for the speed.

Supposidly Paul has promised 2.2 in his port by the end of the week but a week is a long time.

I love it, the big clock and weather incorperation, the dialer, the friendstream widget, the facebook integration and so on. I know generally these can be done without sense with individual apps but the fact they are all here by default and it doesnt noticebly slow down the phone (except it will be no show for 2.2 now)

Just my 2 cents anyway.

No worries! There is no right and wrong on the matter. :-)

I have always preferred, lean, fast UIs....and my primary experience of Sense is on phones for which it wasn't intended that may have had a fast enough processor, but were short on RAM...so ran it slowly and poorly. That's why I tend to associate it with eye-candy over-bloat....but I'm sure that on a phone it was actually INTENDED to be used on it probably works very well. :-)

I also turn off all animations. It makes the UI snappy and fast. The only eye-candy concession I make is the use of "Beautiful Widgets" which effectively gives a stock Android UI more of a Sense UI clock and weather widget.

Like I said.....no right and wrong. Only personal taste.

Interest reading.

How is your battery life after the upgrade and can you fry an egg on the back of the phone?  Laughing

I've been rockin froyo since it was released, some nice ui changes and super high benchmark scores but its nothing special lol loving the cool pinchy gallery, Cooliris (or whoever is responsible for it) have spent a lot of time on that however the music app hasn't changed.

The battery life is about the same and it seems about the same heat as ol 2.1 , very hot when charging. Also having problems with the new radio, doesn't seem as awesome as the last one but too scared to revert back incase it bricks

Well it seems at least partially official, FM radio and Wireless N aren't in Froyo, and don't look like they'll be integrated any time soon, if at all in the case of FM...

I guess i'll be investigating Cyanogen in the next few weeks then... wireless N sounds like something i would actually find useful.

lchiu7: I tell a lie. It FC's after sending a SMS. Also ChompSMS does the same thing so Google has made some changes to the way SMS works without telling 3rd party developers. Oh well - back to the stock SMS application.

OK there is an update for Hancent that works with 2.2.

Also I got a note from CoPilot that they have a fix in the works for 2.2 also for CoPilot Live

The phone runs cool and - if anything - the battery life seems to be better. I was using my phone all day today and finally got down to 10% at about 8pm. So I swapped in a fresh batery and I'll be golden until 6am at this rate. ;-)

NOTE: The Froyo I've installed (FRF50) appears to have been a test release for devs who attended Google I/O 2010. It isn't the final version, apparently. If you open up the update package, all the dates are from November 25th, 2009. This has been on the shelf for months if those dates are right. Whatever...it runs really well. Rumour is the final version will include more cool stuff.

You could get the last radio from modaco.com, flash it from recovery, then wipe the phone and flash a downgrade on it.

This assumes your phone is rooted.

Anyone tried to update their N1 to froyo recently? The original link seems to be dead. Anyone know somewhere else to download it?

I have the file if you want it. I'm assuming your phone is NOT rooted?

If it is rooted, just get the rooted one from modaco.

Thanks :)
I think I have found a place to download it from but if not how would you send it to me?
