In the link i provided above the comments section suggests everyone receiving the update has got software version FRF91 which is the stock version of froyo with no changes, the wait was due to 2 pieces of software being left out of the update something like amazon mp3 and google goggles. The fact vodafone uk nexus ones are now on frf91 suggests they will get future updates immediately.

n95: ? what happened to the HTC Desire? Press release late last month said Vodafone were going to release Desire 1st week of July but I've never heard mention of the Nexus One?

Isn't the Desire and the Nexus One very similar in terms of specs?

Yes. Very similar.

The Desire has an optical trackpad instead of a trackball (N1).
The N1 has noise cancellation built-in. Desire does not.
If you swap batteries, the N1 is *much* easier to get the back off of than the Desire.

N1 gets the latest from Google first. Desire soon after from HTC.

Desire has Sense UI. N1 has Android default UI. Similar, but not the same. (I prefer default).

N1 is designed to be rooted / unlocked. Desire is not (but has been rooted anyway).

jjnz1: Digital Mobile NZ are now selling the Nexus One, but they are also stating that it's capable of google maps with navigation ...

" Google Maps Navigation: offering turn-by-turn driving directions with voice output"

http://www.digitalmobile.co.nz/google-htc-nexus-one.html

Can anyone confirm this, is it a unique vodafone rom thing?

Telecom XT has been claiming the same thing for the not-quite-here-yet Motorola Milestone. So it may be that NZ will be enabled by Google for turn-by-turn Nav in Maps.

I keep checking...and it looked like it almost worked one day....Maybe they were testing. ;-)

We just had a Google Nexus One delivered to work, someone else is having a play with it atm and hopefully I'll get a go after he's finished with it.

I can confirm that the device we have here at work does NOT have any Vodafone software on it that I could see. It also did an update and now the device has 2.2 on it. I'll try to get a photo and upload it later.

I just went out for a quick walk at lunchtime.

No Nexus One at First Mobile in the Atrium Crown Plaza, nor the two Vodafone stores in Queen St (one next to JB Hifi, the other just down from the Qantas Building).

The First Mobile guy told me the online store reports stock about a week before they get physical stock in the stores, but this is just one man's word ...

Is the one near the Qantas building the 'real' Vodafone store?

I had an online chat with a Vodafone rep yesterday (using their new online chat thing instead of phoning - quiet cool!) and she said stock would be here around lunchtime today - so it looks like this is the case.

Yes the large Vodafone store between Durham and Wyndham Sts.  To be honest they were flat chat in there, so I only asked one person who may not have been aware.
