See the Geekzone Home page for the news story or have a look at the Vodafone page detailing the sales details

heavenlywild: Out of stock already!

Its been out of stock since I started looking this morning - I am guessing they didn't have any when they added the phone to the site.

My reading of the site after a quick look is that they appear to be initially only offering it with Smart 130 plan (maybe limited stock?).  Both the other options below it (Smart 80 or Mobile only) show "out of stock" as do the prepay options.  So maybe have to sign up to a Smart 130 if you want one now - possibly expanding to other plans as stock flows in?  Pure speculation, I must add!!

? what happened to the HTC Desire? Press release late last month said Vodafone were going to release Desire 1st week of July but I've never heard mention of the Nexus One?

Isn't the Desire and the Nexus One very similar in terms of specs?

This articles claims they have been discontinued, although after reading it I'm not entirely sure if they just mean Google will no longer sell it or if it is being completely discontinued.

I've been reading a few things lately about how dismal the sales were and how it was being discontinued, seems like a weird time for Vodafone to start selling them, but I may just be readin things wrong.

EDIT: Just read the article linked above saying it would still be sold through partners, however I'm still not sure if now is the best time to start selling the phone. Guess we'll have to wait and see the response. I'll still hold off for the next gen Droid 2 or something similar.

"Nexus one is the first Smartphone that is going to use the latest Google Android 2.1 operating system"

Seems like someone at vodafone did some copying and pasting of some very old info.

As I posted in the article, the original press release was "latest 2.2" when they realised it actually comes with 2.1 - Vodafone expects Android 2.2 to be available as an update soon, but have no definitive dates.

Vodafone UK (and I believe Australia) uses a custom Vodafone ROM. I have no idea what changes there are or whether Vodafone NZ will do the same thing.

If this helps at all Vodafone UK has said that Android 2.2 will be updated on all Nexus ones they sell this week,
see here

They are even leaving the wifi hotspot and tethering intact. So no reason to think NZ versions will be waiting long for 2.2 updates

heavenlywild: Vodafone rom = waiting longer for newer software updates?

Exactly.  Part of the appeal of the Nexus One is that it is Google's own development device -> it gets the upgrades first.  If you slap another ROM on there then you are at the whim of the telco provider.  anyone picking up one of these would be well advised to unlock and root, and flash another ROM based on 2.2.

Also noted this morning, that the out of stock notice has disappeared.  I may wander down to the Vodafone store in Queen St at lunchtime to verify ...

Digital Mobile NZ are now selling the Nexus One, but they are also stating that it's capable of google maps with navigation ...

" Google Maps Navigation: offering turn-by-turn driving directions with voice output"

http://www.digitalmobile.co.nz/google-htc-nexus-one.html

Can anyone confirm this, is it a unique vodafone rom thing?
