I have 120mb :/

I get close to that by just having the phone idle on 3g during the weekdays... Load www.stuff.co.nz once and that's nearly 1/12th of your months allowance gone.

I only have 100mb a month. And I think the next step up is to 3GB. Wouldn't something like 3-400mb be better? I don't want/need 3GB and I certainly don't want to pay for it!

300MB is 10MB / day. You can't do squat for that. May as well stay on casual rate and never use 3G. Cost: $30 / month.

3GB is 100MB / day. Usable without worry. Cost: $40 / month. $10 more....and who is THAT poor and owns a smart phone?

It's a limit...not a target. :-)

Telecom has 500MB, 2GB, 4GB plans as well. And prepay, which is very good, since you pay what you actually use, unlike Vodafone.

aim: Why are the telcos here so crappy? Phones aren't exactly the hardest things to ship... We get the best cars, NZDM are generally the highest spec you can get. And they weigh tonnes. as opposed to grams.

As an aside (and a complete derail) take a look at car prices here compared to the USA.

Prius:
Base model here: $49,690NZD
Base model USA: $22,800USD or about $30,200NZD
Top spec USA: $28,070USD or about $37,250NZD

Corolla sedan:
Base model here: $35,890NZD
Base model USA: $15,450USD or about $20,500NZD
Top spec USA: $18,960USD or about $25,200NZD

Sure there are spec differences at the lower end but the high end USA cars are still easily better in that regard

I'm told by a reliable source the Galaxy S is due at the end of this month.

That's what my source has been telling me for the last few weeks as well; October 28th. Although that has never been a solid date as far as I am aware, and if they're now saying "in time for Christmas", I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed out a little further.

I don't know how half of you manage to use so much data. You obviously aren't working when you're supposed to be. :-D I only switch my mobile data on 2 or 3 times during the day and use my home wifi at night.

Some of the lecture theatres don't have great wifi coverage (get them with laptop, but not phone) and my desire drops out every now and again, so I have to use the 3g connection to DL pdfs/notes/whatever if I want them during the lecture.
