I had it, but found it lagged too much, so got rid of it. I like the Firefox mobile beta, but its too slow right now. So back to the stock browser for me

What phone are you using semigeek? I have found the latest Firefox beta to be a lot faster. The fastest browser out at the moment is probably the new Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta that came out yesterday though.

Anyone tried the new and apparently 60% trimmed Firefox for droid? I tried the original chubby version pre-root and found that it rrequired too much space and haven't revisited it yet.

Just tried the Opera Mobile Beta 10.1. Gotta say it's pretty quick!

I found dolphin browser hd to be too slow on my non lag fixed galaxy s, but with ext4 lag fix it runs well. haven't tried the other browsers yet.

I've just got a Vodafone 845 on a new plan and having great fun with the apps. Good ones so far:

Barcode Scanner (original version kept crashing on my 845 but there was an update that fixed it. Works great for QR codes)

Google Sky Map - hold it up to the sky and it shows you where the constellations are

SoundHound - hold it up to some music and it tells you the song. You can also hum a tune and it will tell you as well. Haven't used this much yet but the comments were positive.

Vlingo - mentioned above. Text commands for a heap of stuff. i.e. to send a text to Steve asking him where he is you just say "text steve message where are you"

Glympse - quickly send your location to someone in a text or via Facebook etc.

Where's my Droid - mentioned above. I've just installed this on mine and it's awesome. I'd say it's an essential app. You choose two phrases and then when you text either of those phrases to your phone it does two different things - one is reply with its GPS coordinates and one is to make it crank its volume up and start ringing.

Plus all the usual social media - Twitter, TweetDeck, Facebook, etc.

Someone above mentioned Google Goggles. Is this available in NZ? I tried to search for it in the Android market and nothing came up.

Yep Goggles is available, its available in appbrain too. You should install the appbrain app as its a lot better than googles own market app.

The apps I use most often

GroundSpeak (geocaching)
Zombie Run! (good for exercise or for practice when the dead actually start to rise)
Tasker
Swiftkey - I'm a big fan of this keyboard
TuneIn Radio
ONN - onion news network piss-take video news service - good laugh on the train

I tend to gobble data but these apps give me much pleasure

Hmm still couldn't get Google Goggles. Same with Google Chrome to Phone.

Looks like I need a firmware update for my 845 - I'm on Android 2.1. Need Android 2.2.

If I use Android Market to search for 'Goggles' or 'Google Goggles' it can't find it. I go to Appbrain and sync it with my phone but when I use my phone to install it it pauses then says the application can't be found. Might be the Android version I guess.

A reply from the Vodafone forums: "2.1 is latest approved handset software for the Vodafone 845"
