Made up one of the download mode rigs for my "bricked" galaxy.

Worked a treat, managed to install Froyo via Odin.

Phone is awesome!!! Lightyears ahead of the stock firmware, and now have 3 button recovery enabled too.

If anyone desperately needs to use my rig, PM me would be more than happy to help.

Nice one.

I've done the same, but when I put the phone in to download mode with the resistor rig, it isn't recognized by the USB driver I have installed. Phone is recognized fine by Kies under normal operation.

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work?

Ah... Looks like it works just fine with Odin. I thought I had to have the android bridge active to do an update.

So now I'm on froyo 2.2.1 - bit flakey though - 3g internet only works occasionally and currently can't connect via usb to transfer files and such. Looks like I need to do some tweaking to make it work properly...

Fast though! Feels really snappy now compared to 2.1...

... and 3BR is working!

I was missing the 3BR also (phone sourced from Expert Infotech, apparently a hong kong import). I followed the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201.

Interestingly, in my research, the 3BR is mentioned in official samsung documentation and instructs the end-user to use this mode if the phone refuses to boot to reset it back to factory. So for Samsung NZ to claim it's not official or is disabled... Maybe it could be a Consumer Gaurantee's Act claim - e.g. does not comply to advertised standards, not of merchantable quality (e.g. missing essential 'parts').

Unless you have enough time to do this, I would suggest that your time should be more valuable than doing this. After numerous arguments with Samsung and Harvey Norman, I came to a conclusion that I don't need this hassle in my life. I will never buy another Samsung product however. They simply were lying to me about only NZ having this function disabled.
