numfarr: I'm guessing they will do what they did for the Tab and add more RAM. Also the UK unlocked price is UKP549, a lot more than the Galaxy S.

It has the same specs as the nexus 1, ram is the same, CPU same speed.

Same CPU?
No way, Hummingbird Cortex A8 vs nexus one's snapdragon. Big GPU difference.

The use of ddr1 in nexus one vs ddr2

Use of 45nm SoC chip which uses way less power apparently..

I believe he was comparing the CPU speed, not the CPU itself.

The lack of an SD card puts me off.

I'm looking for a Galaxy S-type phone with video-out and NO hardware keyboard, but it seems it's hard to find. I'm weary of the Galaxy S' GPS issues.

old3eyes: Anyone running a sweep-stake that you can't buy it here in NZ, US only??

Won't that be a surprise...

According to the tech specs, it's a 900/1700/2100 device.

What does that mean? I thought any phone that worked in the UK also worked here as NZ was using same frequencies, or did I get that wrong?

Also, quick note about the price, it's 529 USD, not GBP... (http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/06/googles-nexus-s-product-page-goes-live/)

Anyway, I want one.

Thanks

It means that it'll work on Vodafone and 2degrees, but not on Telecom.

Yep was talking about the same speed CPU, i do know that the hummingbird is a better CPU, but what i was trying to point out is that the nexus S could have been a way better phone and not some "slap the name on a galaxy S add a couple of things" phone.
I will be keeping my nexus 1 and hoping that google will go back to HTC for the nexus 3 (if there is one)

The tech specs in the link don't mention GPS specifically, only A-GPS. I'm confused, does that mean it has GPS and A-GPS (cell tower localisation) or just the latter. Guess it's one way of avoiding the SGS GPS issue if it is the latter.

Thanks for that. Didn't realise they were using different frequencies (still relatively new in NZ).

Langers: thanks for clarification, just shows how rip-off Britain is (charging more in Pounds than the same price in USD) - but I expect it to be just as bad here.

Oh well, I guess I'll just wait for the official release over here and pay twice as much as in the US...

Looking forward to a modified Rom for SGS based on the Nexus S

What GPS issue is that?

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

The one that has at least a dozen threads devoted to it (long lock times and jumpy inaccurate positions).  That and the lag issues are what have stopped me picking up what is otherwise a very attractive handset.  Can you point me to a link that covers that it has been fixed please?  Then I might get me a new phone for Christmas.

I haven't had any GPS issues since Froyo came out. The lock times have been insanely good with the new Speedmod K10H Kernel as well (9 GPS lock within 15 seconds).

A-GPS is GPS with additional assistance of the cell towers for faster locks and the ability to work in closed spaces (with no clear view of the sky).

15 second lock, and 5 metres accuracy. (Also gets lock indoors). More accurate and responsive than wife's iPhone 3Gs GPS.

Lag can be easily remedied by OCLF 2.0 if you're actually experiencing any - not everybody does.

Enjoy your new Christmas present. Wink
