It seems amongst the guys, just in a pocket and removing it prior to sitting down seems to be the preferred option.

The Galaxy S, and a few others, have toughened Gorilla Glass, but is anyone using screen protectors as well?

No, no screen protector. I did try one for a day but didn't like it at all. I don't have any scratches on my phone. Naturally with a phone in this price range you're pretty careful how you handle it. I don't have keys near it and keep it in the soft leather pouch when I'm travelling somewhere where the phone isn't being left on the desk/counter etc.

Have always used a belt clip with smaller phones in the past and continue to do so with my SGS. Got a couple of cases in from the US from EBay to try - selected what I thought was the better of the two and gave the other one to my son for his Desire HD! I have no problem with it digging into hip etc - although it could be an issue in the car I guess - its just that I always put mine into the car mount. Noscreen/case protection other than that.

Front left hand pocket, screen towards leg, nothing else ever goes in that pocket. Period. RH pocket is for keys etc tht could be scratchy. The phone has a skin on the body but nothing on the screen. Never had a scratch on any screen on any phone that has been lucky enough to follow this procedure.

Front right hand pocket, always has the top facing the bottom of the pocket, and the front of the phone facing my thigh so when I pull it out, its always up right and facing me. Downside is that when I wore jeans a while ago it hit the metal thing above my pocket and got a nice scrape down the front of the screen but it had a protector on which was easy to replace. (nokia e63, blue).

Dad puts his Candy bar nokia one in his back pocket, and sits with it in there which means he doesnt deserve a phone if he treats it like that.

and mum puts hers the the blackberry case which has the magnet so it locks the phone when its inside. She'll usually have it in her purse or hold it. She too throws it in the car just assuming it will land on the seat =____=

Just put it in my pocket!! No protection, like I said: simple.

I think this is quite an interesting thread for something you just do and don't normally think about.

I was quite surprised at the number of you wandering around with the Samsung Galaxy S. It does seem to be the "geeks" phone and is built like the proverbial "brick sh!t house" with that slab of Gorilla Glass on the front. You just can't scratch it, as shown in this Korean test

IDEOS: Left pocket in my jeans with nothing else in there. Except when I'm on the town I usually go full retard and put some change or a lighter in there too >_<

I used to think the idea of a phone sock was good until i got one (a quality branded one at that which will remain nameless) within a week or two of using said phone sock my phone died of condensation.

At that time the nicest phone i ever owned was stuffed and never really cared for anything else to carry them around in again. Plain and simple.

BEWARE the Phone Sock ! ! ! !

One of the little sidelines I have in my Sysadmin job is making "frankenphones" from the salvageable parts of expensive units that have returned by our corporate/managerial staff. Condensation/water damage just from pockets and normal handling was one of the most common kinds of faults.

Another reason to look for breathable business pants (ie cotton rather than synthetic) I suppose.

My HTC Desire HD is too big for most of my pockets so my phone gets thrown in a shoulder bag, backpack, or on the seat of the car. It has a screen protector and I use a leather sleeve for now until my hard case arrives from the US.

I always use a case and screen protector because keys often get dropped onto the phone.

I have big mitts, so keep the phone in my hand (single handed just like SBW) or otherwise it'll be in a jean pocket.

Sometimes I also use a front shirt pocket as it's easily accessible (e.g. good when sitting down at a desk or in the car... the radiation from the phone keeps my heart beating and what not). Just have to remember not to lean over or it falls out. Dropped a number of phones that way (including iPhone & SGS) but luckily none broke in the fall.
