xlinknz: Just checked and I have incurred 0.09c of charges this morning I have only had the phone turned on 2 hours and not used it for anything Frown

You haven't said what network you're on. According to Johnr you don't need the internet APN configured to send or receive pxt. I can confirm that I don't need to do so for 2degrees either. So if you're on either of those two networks you have a solution. Use an app like APNdroid to turn your APNs on/off from a homescreen widget. APNdroid has the option to leave the MMS APN configured so MMS will keep working. As far as I can tell from the Telecom APN settings this should work on Telecom too.

Thank you for the replies. We're both on VFNZ but will be changing to 2degrees soon. I fairly sure I tested and found I did need the Internet APN but it sounds like I am wrong in that respect. That said I'll download and try APNdroid so we can simply leave MMS APN on and turn on the Internet APN on an as needed basis.

Still be useful to what app is causing those charges [assuming it is an app]

With my wife's VFNZ prepaid [I'm on account] you can't even see your data charges [VFNZ must be taking a lot of $ from people who don't realise they're getting charged for something they don't even know they're using !]

I had the same problem with telecom. $1 dollar a day, if you use 1kb or 10 mb. Something,  (I have no idea what) was using about 850kb a day, so I just went into settings>> Mobile networks>> and turned off  "Enable always-on mobile".
Now my battery is still at about 98% by the evening, despite me using it as an mp3 player during the day, and the usual texting. I also now have wifi turned off during the day as we dont have it (in my office). I have heard there are some good connection managers out there, but dont really feel I need it. 3g watchdog was good to track the data usage, but I would have been more interested in what app was causing the traffic.

@xlinknz, have you tried setting the device to 2g only. It may be defeating the purpose of the device a little but you'll still be able to use wifi networks when you can
