As an alternative you can always download Android [It's free] and boot into it using a flash drive on a laptop or PC if your device is able to boot from USB devices to get familiar with it without shelling out for a tablet. You don't need to install anything.
Only issue is whether it can use your WiFi or not. It is apparently supposed to be able to use your ethernet and/or your Wifi but I couldn't get that bit to work but you may be lucky.

I found a site via Google that had everything I needed and took no time.

It looks a bit ugly and stretched on a larger screen and you need to use a mouse which isn't as good but the OS runs smoothly with all the menus and basic apps. Apparently you are supposed to be able to go to the android market and install apps as well.

Linuxluver: It kicks iPod a*se.

For what reason?

I have a Galaxy, and an iPod 5G, and have owned an iPod Touch, and I must say that while the Galaxy has replaced my iPod for music on the go, its music capability (using either stock music app or Doubletwist) positively pales in comparison to an iPod (Touch or classic).

That took me down a different thought path, how about putting Android on my old HTC Touch Diamond! There are plenty of articles thar intaweb so it appears that it can be done, this could be a fun project (or a complete catastrophy rendering my Touch Diamond unusable :-)
