Hey well telecom eventually confirmed no release of 2.1 backflip will be forthcoming.
The decision was not hard... basically half the apps i try and install won't let me.. telecom have happily released a phone with a 2 year old operating system that you cannot upgrade and the no longer runs most of the good android apps out there.

So anyway i successfully upgrade mine to 2.1 and believe me it is alot better ^^

I did it following this tutorial:

http://www.techgeekguy.com/2010/12/update-motorola-backflip-from-1-5-to-2-1-eclair-with-multitouchne...

Just a note about two things in this tutorial...
I did not need to flash my phone with " signed-IT_radio.zip"
Just skip this step if you got your phone from telecom.
Also this requires you to root your phone. In the tutorial it advises to use Z4root. This app would NOT install on my Motorola backflip 1.5 I tried Z4r00t 1.22 and z4root 1.3 and neither would work. In order to do this follow this root method..

http://www.techgeekguy.com/2010/12/how-root-motorola-backflip-1-5-rageagainstthecage-method.html

I loved the name of this Root kit lol... Motorola has trapped you poor little backflip in 1.5 hell... this will help break the cage and free its potential.. which admittedly isn't amazing lol... but hey its a darn sight better then what it was. If anyone has any questions about the tutorial (it can be a little bit confusing at times) let me know ^^
