no need to disable lagfix, just flash.

if youre on XT you should see a nice difference in battery life and data speeds id say

just flashed
only took 10 seconds
i disabled lagfix to be safe cause I'm still new to android/flashing modems roms etc

i'll re-enable lagfix now!

other question was

how do you stop the bands from defaulting to other bands than 850mhz when you're on 3G

cause I like to switch my phone to GSM a lot of the time to save battery
and i find that when i switch back to WCDMA

the band selection isn't going to 850mhz unless i go back into the service menu and select it

XT has no GSM bands. it only uses 850 3g. switching to GSM technically would be the same as going into flight mode - perhaps worse, as the phone will now be scanning for service on GSM and not finding anything.

to force 850 you need to go into the service menu like you have already mentioned *#2263# then choose WCDMA and the bands you want. XT only works on 850mhz, or 2100mhz inner city backfill in the 3 major cities. i tend to leave it on "WCDMA only" but let the phone decide on 850 or 2100 as it sees fit. im sure it is choosing what it deems easier to connect to - as 850 i believe might draw a bit more power to maintain.

but yeah, not sure what youre doing/expecting switching to GSM mode - why not use a widget like Switchpro to easily toggle 3g (by enabling/disabling the APNs)?
