Hi all,

Ive had a galaxy i9000T (Telecom) for around 5 months and lately it has been very unstable.

Application installation could cause the phone to freeze, once rebooted (sometimes having to remove the battery) random applications would disappear.
Now sometimes even taking a photo the phone will crash, reboot itself and not only lose the photos, it could lose other photos stored on the external card.

It updated itself in Kies sometime in November to Froyo. I don't recall doing any registry mod's or forcing the install, it just was there and happened.
It is running: Firmware 2.2, Baseband ver I9000TDOJP1, Kernel 2.6.32.9 root@SE-S604 #5, Build FROYO.DOJP2

Whats my best plan? Restore to Eclair or attempt a root rom install? Which roms would suite best? (reading through the main i9000 article is mixed between Vodafone and Telecom variants)

Doc's rom using the rom kitchen

http://romkitchen.org/sgs/?s=generator

I have installed Doc onto 2x Telecom Galaxy i9000T with no problems. You can choose the NZ based modem in the kitchen. Installation instructions are on xda forum.

Basically
Step 1 Make sure you have 3 button recovery, if not get it
Step 2 Make a rom file using the website
Step 3 Put rom file on the sd card
Step 4 Get Clockwork Mod onto your phone using odin
Step 5 Reboot into recovery and use clockwork to apply the rom you made in the kitchen

the website isn't loading so i can't check. but if one of the modems is marked as telecom nz, then yes that would be the one i used.

PS> after i installed clockwork mod I couldn't boot the phone, could only boot into recovery. so i had to undo it all, then stick the rom on the sd card, then re-add clockwork. so it's important to put the generated rom file on the phones internal sd card BEFORE installing clcokwork. after applying the new rom in clockwork everything was fine.

I'm also running a telecom i9000T, and having alot of success with darky's rom. This has just been updated to v9.5 which is based on JS8. I've been running the last few iterations of this build for ages now, its fast and works without problems if you use it with speedmod's kernel, and the UGJL2 modem.

Ive tested a bunch of kernels including darkys new voodoo based Dark Core, and hardcore's speedmod is the best for speed and battery life, I've found. If you enable all tweaks and lagfix to run ext2
filesystem, the phone will run butter smooth and you'll see quadrant scores in excess of 2000. And last for 40 + hours with moderate use (if you don't leave 3G data/gps/background data on constantly), I got about 64 + hours with light use.

And I've also been testing a ton of modems for best XT performance, including the new JVE and JQ1 modems, they all either have problems staying on 850 mhz or turn in really average performance. The best is still UGJl2, long battery life, clear calls, fast data and fast gps

Any way, just the opinion of an i9000T performance obsessed user, if it helps :)

An alternative to the monkeying around with docs rom flash process would be
1) flash darkys resurrection 9.2 odin rom using odin, this will get you CWM recovery and his base 9.2 rom
2) install the darky configurator from the app market, and choose your setup options including speedmod
3) CWM flash 9.5 across
4) flash the Ugjl2 modem

Done.

you could also consider flashing the stock 2.3.3 gingerbread rom which is now leaked, instructions on xda. not sure if its suitable for i9000t, but if you get stuck on 3G 900Mhz you can use the service menus to change it to 850Mhz.

I thought that leaked rom had multi touch issues amongst other things and wasn't fully stable yet?

Hmm I don't know if the service menus alone will enable 850... I did the service menu tricks with the other gingerbread modems, even force selecting 850 as the only modem with the [*] selected, and despite this the phone would only use 2100, this would be pointless for xt users outside of the major cities without 2100 backfill...? ?

Well im on Darky's Resurrection Edition 9.2. Pretty easy the only exception is I used Heimdall instead of Odin.

Ill look at installing the configurator soon and update to 9.5 Rom. Then I just need to work out how to flash the right modem file after that (as I have no coverage now) but I expected that.

Will keep going :) This is fun!

Ok running Darky's v9.5.XWJS8 now.

Just working out where to find the modem driver then flash it over. XDA gets pretty congested reading!
Any tips unless I find them first?

try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391

has all the modems you could want, as easy CWM flashable formats. just copy to your internal sd storage, boot to recovery, and flash from there - easy as hell

have a go at the newer modems, i recommend UGJL2 of course

All Done and working,

Found the 850 Modems info on XDA Under the title "Q4 2010 & Q1 2011 (Froyo & Gingerbread) - WCDMA 850 enabled"

I don't know if I can post a link being a newbie on here but will try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391

Im using the Dark Core Kernel, and will try others as they come in. All good so far!

Thanks GZ team.

Im on darkys 9.5 in australia on Telstra which also use WCDMA & 850MHZ

Just wondering if theres any benefit flashing the UGJL2 modem?
How can i find out what modem i have right now anyway

and whats the simplest way to flash, can you do it from recovery mode
Cause Darky rom configurator doesnt have UGJL2 in the options for modem

Yes just copy it onto your internal SD card and flash it recovery mode. It was pretty obvious in the menu when I did it.

To see your current version just go into about phone and look at baseband.

Not sure if it makes it better or not, but I am using the jl2 no problem. The other modems didn't work on Telecom nz (850).

Ill stick with Darkys 9.5 until there is another update.
