nomiss7: Went to a Sony product launch for these tablets last week, looks like a pretty cool little toy, I particularly liked the IR sender to use it as a universal remote and the flick to screen (i think thats what they called it anyway).

Whether i would invest in one, i'm not sure, but at $799 would be worth a look if you needed a universal remote at the same time.

Looks nice, but will have to drop a lot in price. These things are only going to get cheaper anyway.

Yeah but if you were going to buy a similar universal remote for say $300 then you are getting the rest of the tablet features for around the $400 mark so makes it a bit more reasonable.

I really doubt i would pay $799 for it for just the tablet features, so hopefully it does come down in price.

A whole bunch of them arrived at work this morning, didn't get a chance to have a play with one today though sadly

I've played with one briefly while in Singapore, in a store. Really nice size and holding.

It seemed quite fast, but obviously first impressions might change with use.

Saw one in Wellington JB HiFi today; Looks way too fragile and plasticy to me. Definately not up to Sony's usual 'construction and design' standards IMHO.

Was going to get one until I compared the 'specs' with the Toshiba AT100.

Bought mine today and I am loving it. I personally prefer this tablet. It is more natural to hold it with the `curvy` design. Plus, I can have ps games on it! Typing this reply from my shiny sony tablet s. The screen is really good for reading

I was really tempted to buy one.
But with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich and the partnership between Google and Samsung, I am going to hold off until the Samsung 7.7

btw, Sony made announcement that their 2011 phones and tablets will get ICS (late 2011 or early 2012)

The tablet market just isn't mature in my opinion.

When a strong mid-range develops like smartphones I'll reconsider.

I stopped being an early adopter when I sold my Mini-disk stereo portable player combo, early 2000s.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Still heading towards a Samsung Galaxy Note as a smartphone/tablet alternative.

What would you say is the best 'talking on the phone' option for one of these?

I am guessing that actually holding it up to your ear would look kind of stupid.

The 5.2" screen won't be that bad. The body isn't increased as much as people think from say a 4.2". The bezel is cut to virtually nothing.

Size matters and generally bigger the better.

However with a phone it's not just the fact you might be holding a mini tablet by your ear to make a phone call it's where do you put it when you're carrying it around? How well does it slip in to the shirt pocket or trouser pocket? By the very nature of what a mobile phone is used for it needs to be able to be easily carried on your person. I'm not sure some of the large phones are that suitable for carrying around. I suspect that's why the iPhone has kept it's current size. It has a usable sized screen yet still very pocketable/portable.
