I became a swype fan after loading a Beta on my Magic. Made the device instantly more usable. But I think it may be user and device dependent.

It was preloaded on a Galaxy 3 I used for a bit (same screen size) and I had no issues there, but on the Defy I've had for the last 6 months (also preloaded) I find I'm often having to manually retype words to get them correct. Not as enamored as I was.

Skeamz: I was wondering your thoughts on the best keyboard for android phones. I see there's three main ones swype slideit and swiftkey x. Has anyone tried any of these and which do you find is fastest to type on.

I've tried Swype and SlideIt.

I prefer SlideIt...mainly because it's easy to add words and it doesn't accumulate word fragments that hide real words...like Swype did.

SlideIt is also a finished product while Swype has been in beta all the time I've been aware of it. If you've bought SlideIt in the Market, you can login to a phone with that account and installing it is no hassle.

I have been using Swype for nearly a year now and like it.

And now they have a version for honeycomb that I am using on a Xoom it's even better.

SwiftkeyX + 1

I have tried Swype and SwiftkeyX but prefer the word prediction on SwiftkeyX. Sometimes I don't need to tap on more than one letter to complete a sentence.

This thread inspired me to finally install Swype on my U8150. With its small screen, Swype has made it a lot more user friendly for typing.

i use the gingerbread keyboard on my lg p500 and its very accurate.

Thanks everyone for the input, they all have there merits but i've decided i prefer swiftkey X, i find for me its by far the quickest way of inputing text, the way it remembers how you type is amazing.

I'm a fan of Swype, but have discovered the new touchpal, and i'm liking it so far. I used to have it also on my old windows mobile 6.5 phone back in the day.

The new touchpal is fast, does swiping, and also has the old swipe left right up down like in the old days - fast and accurate. Also has a standard phone numberpad layout, which is handy for one handed use. It's also free for a limited time.

I've also purchased smart keyboard pro (very good if you like a tap tap keyboard), swiftkeyX (like the prediction and layout, hate the editing functions), and better keyboard (fast, nice looking, a bit dated now).
