kiwitrc: And so it starts...

+1  ... You know it had to happen.

Personally I am hanging out for an iPhone5.  Missus is in the States around the time it is 'alleged' to be released.  Don't know if she will be able to get an unlocked one so early after the release though.

About time Apple got a taste of their own medicine... I seem to remember Apple suing Microsoft for countless things... for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Computer,_Inc._v._Microsoft_Corporation

It's about time the digital patient system was reworked.

I should have studied IP law.

Own medicine????  I guess your biased. Whether its Apple, Microsoft or whoever, if a company invents or creates an idea or device first, they have copyright, in terms of a patent. Apple began the GUI, it began the smartphone, so it has taken action when required. The same applies if Apple used something that is held as patent by Microsoft or Samsung or whoever. Samsung says Apple is using its wifi technology, so fine, they will resolve that in civil court. Thats business.

These issues happen in business, its not an Apple thing. Its business.

Uh, no.  Smartphones existed long before the iPhone - many of them running Microsoft's phone OS.  They didn't sell as well as the iPhone, but your claim is that Apple began the smartphone, which is a flat out lie.  Same for the GUI. which Apple obtained from Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.  There's lots of debate as to whether Apple legitimately acquired the concept from Xerox, so I won't go into it.  But Apple didn't begin that either.

Don't call me a liar. But believe what you wish to, bias doesn't add value to a discussion.

I wish Apple would just hurry up and release the iPhone 5 so the Missus can buy one and I'll get my excuse to buy a Samsung phone :)

Good luck Samsung because the patents you are trying to use in the case will not work against Apple or as a matter of fact against any other OEM.

Do whatever you want to do man.

nakedmolerat: Apple sold ~20million iphone 4 in the 2nd quarter
Samsung sold ~19 million galaxy in the 2nd quarter

I wonder if Steve Jobs decided the reason Windows beat Mac was because they didn't use patents enough to choke off the competition.

iPhone's early lead was always going to be challenged...and using patents to try to block competition is a GREAT reason to get rid of patents altogether...or make them MUCH harder to get.

It's only an objective discussion if you have at least some of the facts straight.
If you spout nonsense, and you know which bits, it's trolling.

Just don't bother, tdgeek, we've been around this circle before..
IIRC, you accused me of it when I posted something in an apple thread.
Since then, I stay away from apple threads... easy fixed
It's like preaching Christianity to Buddhists, we're not interested, especially when it's all made up... Laughing

You like apple products, we understand, and that's fine... everyone makes their choices.
