wanghou168: cant really wait, so I went to dick smith twenty minutes after posting the topic
ended up getting the Defy :p
Just a bit annoyed because I use 2degrees network
My sim wont work properly, defy only connects to the network under 2g mode
I live in Auckland, so 2100mhz is not the issue.
after looking at some of the older post about XT defy on 2degrees
A new blank micro sim might solve the issue and someone else suggested just a new normal sim will do???
So which sim is the fix to the 3g problem?

Thanks

You really shouldn't have purchased the XT model unless you were planning on using it on XT. You'll now only get 3G in cities and miss out on nationwide 3G coverage in the 900MHz band that this phone doesn't support.

Thanks for pointing this out.
My plan is to use up all my 2d credit then port myself over to XT for better coverage and faster data access.

I havent used the X5 but i wasnt impressed with the Defy (for the price bracket) pretty laggy, you can get much better value second hand off trademe, theres a couple of HTC Desires on there (original one) and they are MUCH better and only for about $250
