Advice needed
I am about to ditch my old LG optimus one p500, need something new to play with.
Currently looking at Defy at $319 vs Ideos X5 white $250 or Ideos Black priced at 319.
Both of them have roughly the same specs.
Which one would you recommended?

Thanks

If you are going to be a little rough with your phone, the Defy is great. I work outside, and cycle a lot, and my Defy never leaves my pocket, rain hail or shine. No need for a zip lock bag, just carry it. CAn be a little sluggish if you use a few greedy apps, but otherwise works great.

+1 for the defy - I've installed cm7 on mine and it performs better and I'm finally rid of motoblur.

cant really wait, so I went to dick smith twenty minutes after posting the topic
ended up getting the Defy :p
Just a bit annoyed because I use 2degrees network
My sim wont work properly, defy only connects to the network under 2g mode
I live in Auckland, so 2100mhz is not the issue.
after looking at some of the older post about XT defy on 2degrees
A new blank micro sim might solve the issue and someone else suggested just a new normal sim will do???
So which sim is the fix to the 3g problem?

Thanks

so you've changed the apn settings to 'internet'?

the defy takes a full sized sim so why do you want a micro sim - you'd then need an adapter.

Yep the defy uses a normal sim.
It is just that some of the older posts says that microsim will fix the 3g problem.
Some other older post says newer standard sim will also do the trick.
Just not sure which fix should I go with

FYI I read the Huawei X5 is $225 @ Warehouse Stationary with matching the warehouse price of $250 less 10% price match promise.

And if you are on XT you must buy the Defy (no choice, the x5 wont work on telecom), if you are on 2degrees/Vodafone it's better to get the X5 although the Defy will *mostly* work on the other networks.

<SIGH> And to think I picked up the X5 for $250 yesterday. Isn't that always the way? :-)

XT is just 850 UMTS ( + 2100 UMTS in sone urban areas).

Are you sure XT provides 2100 in your area?

We got savaged! Could have had the case and screen protectors as well as the phone for $250 ;-) Still stoked with the x5 though. Not sure there is a better phone for the price at the moment.
Good buy on the defy, always liked that phone. Galaxy ace was also a contender for me, but sub $300 for the x5 won me over.

Oop, where were people getting the X5 for $250 from, or was that just a boxing day special?

I got mine from The Warehouse. It was in their latest mailer. Not sure when the offer expires.

Oddly though, they only have the white version at that price, according to their website. The black one is $319.

You really shouldn't have purchased the XT model unless you were planning on using it on XT. You'll now only get 3G in cities and miss out on nationwide 3G coverage in the 900MHz band that this phone doesn't support.
