sonyxperiageek: the bad things are: no removeable battery and no sd card support.

Comes with 32Gb inbuilt doesnt it? Thats enough for the normal person, maybe not some people here on the forums though :P

I'm a fan of sony for designing nice relaible stuff, but not so much Ericsson. Didn't find their hardware terribly reliable. But haven't owned one since Sony became part of the name.

fast charge - 30 min charge will fill up 80% of the battery.i dont see the need of having bigger battery. currently i have extended battery for my sgs 2 and carry another spare one. i only need a spare cable with xperia S

sd card - 32GB will be enough for me. on top of that, you will get free 50GB of cloud storage. i have been using dropbox to store documents and might as well move to box once i have this phone

Sony Ericsson did not exist anymore. it is just 'Sony' for now. Xperia S is the first Sony smartphone without Ericsson in the name

Oh I missed the lack of an SD slot. Rules it out for me, 32GB definitely not enough for my use. Barely enough for my music collection, and soon not enough at all as I convert more and more to FLAC (FLAC=don't even bother talking to me about the Cloud, it doesn't work for me).

I guess one criticism of the Sony XPERIA S is that it doesn't have native/hardware support for FLAC files listed in the supported file types.

Ah yes, I have my own NAS accessible via VPN ...like.. anywhere. So my cloud...is vveeeerrr nice.

I have an XPERIA X10i and thus the 50GB box storage, also Dropbox are doing the beta testing on Android 2.0.9 using DCIM folder upload and giving away 4.5GB of free storage for each 500MB block uploaded(Desktop or Android) during beta testing.
Dropbox is still way better than Box for general access as I see it.

But mobile data costs money for bandwidth if you're not using WiFi.

I've not looked into it, but with Bluetooth and even more promising WiFi Direct there may be an option to connect to 'network' specific storage devices which are mobile my nature themselves.

This makes more sense than having an super large SDcard in a phone as one can share ones 'SSD' external storage with others and if networked to another device playing music, wander off with your phone and come back without disconnecting the 'service'.

Besides, we're talking 500GB supporting WiFi (Direct??) and USB(powered/connection) here and not some SDcard.

Considering a 128GB SDXC card is not going to be cheap and if you're running apps off it, you'd ideally need a class 10 card. Besides, lose the phone and you lose a not so cheap SDXC card...oops.

And now the disheartening news. If one reads the WiFi Alliance WiFi Direct white paper, it states:

All devices certified under the Wi-Fi Direct program will allow the user to connect to an infrastructure or a Wi-Fi Direct-certified network. Simultaneous connection to a Wi-Fi Direct-certified group and an infrastructure network is an optional feature.

This suggests unless otherwise stated, that a Sony XPERIA S using WiFi Direct would most probably have to disconnect from a WiFi AP to use WiFi Direct.

Anybody read if the Sony XPERIA S can maintain a WiFi AP connection and a WiFi Direct connection at the same time????

I used to be holding out for NFC in a Sony Ericsson phone(before they became Sony), but now I'm focused on WiFi-Direct.

Always something to rain on the party.

Addition - The Sony XPERIA S supports multi-touch with 10 fingers.
So is that like twister where your significant other has two+ fingers on the screen too to help round out the ten fingers.
And to think I struggle with two fingers.

Streaming FLAC over mobile data just isn't very practical, and there is no WiFi at work and lots of the places I frequently find myself, so NAS etc is a reasonable thought, just not one that will suit me. I was quite specific though, I did say it was for my particular usage!

Yep, 128GB cards will be expensive, so were 64GB and 32GB cards at first release. Doesn't bother me particularly, and if I lose the phone I'll be claiming insurance so the additional loss of an expensive card is neither here nor there either.

I could use a large drive and USB OTG, but then it's kinda negating the point of a portable set up for me, so that isn't somewhere I want to go either.

As much as im interested in this phone im glad MWC is happening before this gets released. I dont want to buy this phone only to sell it in a month later to buy a Quad-Core device. Im eagerly awaiting to see the HTC Quad-Core phone get announced offically. For all we know SGS3 might (although its not likely) get announced aswell.

This phone is beautiful this highest android phone with PPI = beautiful screen + Sonys Bravia engine = A+++

12.1 megapixel camera, 32GB of storage, sony custom UI for 2.3.7 with ICS upgrade, dual core 1.5ghz processor, NFC tag compatible.

Its just perfect.
