@asmodeus, @twobikes: you will likely not find a Nexus 7 in retail in any major US city. Smaller towns are fine, but the only way to get your hands on them quickly (3-5 days) is via Google. If you're somewhere far out of town, try Staples (their online store has an inventory finder).
New Zealand is the first place I've seen N7 actually in stock. $130 NZD premium over USD pricing seems a bit steep, these things should sell for NZD $299.- + GST. That's our retailers for you.
Ex-stock at Heathrow airport duty free price for 16GB version was UK PDS 187, call that NZ $350. High Street retail was UK PDS 199. So bought one last Friday on way back to NZ. Loaded up some books to read on the plane using the free Star Alliance lounge WiFi, also downloaded my 'free' movie (Transformers - Dark Side of the Moon). Watched a few minutes of that, to see it worked - nice playback. It definitely loaded as the movie ran in flight mode (WiFi off) and Play Movies app showed a few gigs of associated storage.
However, when fired up at home back here in NZ my free movie was wiped with a message that it was not available in my area. The books are still there but the Play Books app also states not available in NZ.
Great tablet, shame about the marketing. So now to get the VPN to the UK office working . . .
Well I am off to the US this weekend. I am not certain if I feel glad I did not purchase a Nexus 7 earlier this year, as now it appear Google are lauching a 32G model for a similar price as the previous 16G, rumoured at $259 US.
But the choice now offered in 7" tablets, I am considering the Nook HD+ at $199, great screen, and SD Card slot, but no GPS or camera don't mind no camera but no GPS is harder to take.
One thing for sure is I will not be buying an iPad Mini (well maybe to resale for profit to pay for my android tablet)
