Well, I'd say the rumours are confirmed for sure now. I've even seen a video from Google advertising it and them talking about it (however I updated my blog post with it, only to have to update it a second time a few minutes later because they'd marked the video private! damn).
Specs:
"... the tablet has a 1280x800 IPS display coated in "scratch-resistant Corning glass," which we presume is of the Gorilla variety, plus a front-facing, 1.2-megapixel camera. Within its 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm case lies either 8 ($199) or 16GB ($249) of storage, plus 1GB of RAM, and NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 SoC. Connectivity comes courtesy of GPS, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Micro USB, plus it's got NFC for all your Android Beaming needs. Rounding things out is a 4325mAh battery and the usual spate of sensors: accelerometer, magnetometer, and a gyroscope." ~ Engadget
It won't be the most bleeding edge Android out there (but with a quad-core it will be right up there!), it won't be the cheapest either (look to random TradeMe imports for that), but for value for money it will blow the competition out of the water! (at these expected prices: US$199 for the 8GB, or about NZ$250 at the current exchange rate and 16GB at US$249 / NZ $315)
Yay, now found a duplicate of the original video:
Ha, I'm following the Nexus 7 a bit obsessively now as I'm watching live it be announced at Google I/O
Ahhh... Australia will be one of the first countries it is available from right now! I think I'll ship it to my Uncle's in Sydney and get him to bring it over on his next regular visit to Auckland. Also, those earlier prices I wrote down are now confirmed (yessss!).
