The problem with flashing a non-TelCo firmware is that you will lose most of the NZ-based NFC functionality, unless you put a non-TouchWiz based rom onto it (CyanogenMod etc) then they'll all still have essentially the same UI.

Have confirmed that the act of charging it seems to result in the excessive drain, guess I'll just have to wait until the TelCos release the update with the fix, given the usual timeframe that's at least another 2 months away.

Been keeping tabs on this thread as I'm looking at doing an upgrade at some stage.

The battery drain issue, without proper investigation, sounds very similar to a problem I'm having on my phone (S4 with CM13) as well as my wife's Z1C on 5.1. Not Samsung related, but google services.
If I charge the phone, I need to reboot it before it will go into deep sleep/doze etc. Otherwise, it just stays awake. Confirmed with BBS showing a *backup*wakelock as the culprit. This seems to affect a myriad of devices / android versions (including people on N). Hopefully Google pay attention and fix it!

Just saw that people have mentioned on that thread that disabling google backup has helped (yet to try myself).

This seems to have helped *touch wood*. Phone hasn't been staying awake after charging, and CPU has been going into low power mode while idle. I've been charging it more frequently than usual to try trigger the issue, but thus far all seems good.

And I'm travelling at the moment, so accept that carrying a battery charge pack is a necessary evil (had to purchase my first ever 'man bag' - it's main purpose being phone charger and battery pack!)

But apart from battery, still love this phone. Camera is awesome.

What's your SOT and usage like? Having a look on the XDA pages, seems the Exynos ones generally last a bit longer, but varies between 4hrs all the way upto 7hrs SOT.

Anyone know if the warranty is void if we put another countries firmware on? The Australian XSA looks like one that gets updated regularly.

Ok, so I have changed my mind on disabling google back up since posting above. Battery life on the S7 has been getting worse, in particular excessive discharging while it sits beside the bed doing nothing at night. Looks like Google play services is the main culprit, so I have disabled google back up. Will see how this pans out over the near future.

Could be tempered glass or regular. I've purchased two recently from trademe advertised with words like "edge to edge" only to find they leave a gap on the sides of the screen

I currently have a Tech21 protector on that covers the whole thing, but it's matte/glare-reducing, and i'd prefer it to be clear as I don't like how the matte finish dulls the picture clarity.

As a side note, if anyone wants a Tech21 matte protector, I've got one spare i'm happy to sell. Bought it for the boss's phone, but she doesn't want it. New in box from Noel Leeming

Good luck, I've had no luck either. It seems the slightly curved glass edge on the side on the non-edge S7 is the nemesis of screen protectors. I imagine it must be a lot worse for edge users! I just live with the slight lifting off the edge of the phone.

I'm sure you're right, but given the current one I have on is full screen (but matte), and sticks well, it must be possible. Maybe I'll just have to look into whether Tech21 have clear protectors on Amazon

Quick question. NZ new phones dual sim capability? Just been given a work phone and hate carrying too phones! If S7 Edge doesn't support it. Would you recommend anything else? Thanks.

You will need a parallel imported S7 to get dual sim capability, the model number is G935FD. Note that if you are planning on using spark/skinny it will only support one sim on that network, one sim must be on 2G (which spark/skinny do not have).
If you require dual 3G standby for spark/skinny sims, then check out the Sony X Performance.
Note that both these phones use hybrid sim/microSD trays, so you can't use your SD card and 2sims simultaneously.
If you want two sim cards and a SD card all simultaneous, check the Sony M5 Dual from parallel importer. Doesn't support dual 3G standby tho...

Update. Yep, disabling google back up has improved battery life quite considerably.

So after a quick skim of this thread, it seems people haven't been rooting their phones?

Understand samsung pay refuses to work with broken knox, but it's not a big deal since it doesn't work here. And also, android pay doesn't work with rooted phones. But what else doesn't work. Did I read someone said they had worse battery life after rooting?!
