Yeah it does..

Would assume it's a firmware upgrade to enable necessary hardware

Not yet but there are calls for it on XDA Developers, guessing it'll take a US launch to add a bit of a push

Bit the bullet and bought one using the $150 topup deal at Warehouse Stationary, what a bargain for such a high end phone (in terms of specs, not price for once)

As anyone noticed any problems with Wifi drop out on the X5? I get it constantly on why home network especially when doing something like watching HD YouTube videos.

So far I've assumed that its a problem with my particular hardware setup but haven't tested it on another wifi network yet.

Have you disabled Wifi sleep to stop the phone shutting off wifi when the screen turns off?

Should that have any impact on video playback? I've set it to 'Never' so I'll see if that improves things, cheers.

I seem to be getting wifi issue too so must be a bug that hopefully will be fixed in this coming release.

Also, when I go to create a new text message I can't select anyone to send it to if I click on 'To' field as nothing populates whereas my old VF845 would allow a search from contacts so I have to go into contacts and select the messaging function from there. Anyone else have this problem?

You can start typing a name into the To box and matching contacts should appear in a drop down box. I don't know of a way to access your contact list to scroll through tho.

Maybe it's a Froyo improvement but there used to be a + sign next to 'To' box and if you clicked that you could search through contacts. Thanks for the tip

I have problems with WIFI dropping off to.

I have been using a free programme from the market called Wifi Fixer.

This seems to help quite a bit.

The programme also allows you to move between WIFI hotspots say in the same building and it will automatically keep the phone connected.

One annoying bug I have found is that when I move through an area of no cell phone coverage and back into coverage again, the phone does not always recover and a hard reset is required.  Has anyone else seen this?

Also Bluetooth has to be turned on and left for approx 1 minute before I try and connect my headset.  Otherwise the bluetooth errors.

langers1972: It was never advertised as being upgraded to Gingerbread, only the Wifi hotspot feature

"*WiFi Hotspot: please note that the first software release for the X5 does not contain the Android WiFi 'Hotspot' feature meaning that your X5 cannot act as a WiFi Hotspot for other devices (e.g. laptop) to share its mobile data connection. However the standard WiFi function of the X5 itself is unaffected and works very well. There will be a subsequent software release in April/May which will add the WiFi Hotspot function and we will contact all 2degrees users to provide simple upgrade instructions."

Huawei themselves have pretty much confirmed that Gingerbread 2.3 or 2.4 (at least) will be made available for the X5

WiFi on the X5 has always been a bit iffy.  Some of the early reviews actually had the WiFi permenantly broken and unable to establish a connection.  Mine is a OK to work with and I probably get a drop out once every couple of times when I am browsing.

I'll have to give WiFi Fixer a go.  Thanks for the heads up.

Have you guys tried this?

You go to Menu>settings>Wireless & networks>wifi settings THEN press menu again> press advanced>wifi sleep policy>choose “Never”.

The behaviour I'm seeing doesn't look like it is related to a policy.  The connection can take a number of attempts before it will sign on and will drop off in the middle of a browsing session when there is data flowing.  Because I am actively reading pages, the screen is always on, so the policy wouldn't activate anyway.
