djtOtago:as stated, each was shot using either live focus or portrait mode. The purpose of each is to seperate the subject from the background by defocusing the background, this is done in software to emulate the effect that a fast lens with a wide aperture on a DSLR can do. commonly called bokeh. So the subject should be in focus while the background should be out of focus.

The right has better colours, but only the centre is in focus.
