Yes have tried changing the policies.

As others have said you can be browsing with full signal and all of a sudden it drops off and then spends quite a while coming back online.

Have noticed this with Youtube viewing as well.

Working fine on my GF's.  The only thing stopping me from swapping one out with my dust filled P500 is the lack of tethering via a wifi, essential for my Ipad to work!!  Never know, come April I may be able to purchase one!!

What did you think of the X5 compared to your P500? I'm tempted to upgrade from my P500 particularly as the P500's screen is a bit small and operation can be a bit sluggish at times. I'm a bit concerned about the wifi bug and lack of tethering in this firmware release of the X5. Does the X5 suffer with the touchscreen pause bug? Also is the software it comes with reliable when synching to Outlook?

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

Larger screen = far easier to use!!  The CPU speed certainly makes  a difference as I don’t get the sluggish behaviour seen in the P500.  However I did come from an LG arena, and a could make a cup of tea between screen changes on that!!  The only slight annoying thing about the X5 design is the battery back can clip off easily by accident.  Thats where the strange p500 design is quite good!

I'm a bit concerned about the wifi bug and lack of tethering in this firmware release of the X5.

This was a deal breaker for me and the only reason I am holding on to my P500.  I need that wifi tethering for my Ipad.  I have used the wifi on hers for app updates and it didn’t disconnect.  We have the 3gb plans so wifi is very rarely turned on, so haven’t tested it to its full capabilities

Does the X5 suffer with the touchscreen pause bug?

Havent noticed it to be anything like the P500, but I only had real problems with games on it.  I haven’t installed any games on the X5 as she doesn’t really like them.

Also is the software it comes with reliable when synching to Outlook?

It comes with no software (unless its on the memory of the phone), and I have my our email domain hosted with gmail.  Of which it does a very good job of synchronising with.

Overall the biggest benefit has to be the AIR support, and the larger screen.  If only the thethering worked already!!

I bought a X5 last week and am absolutely loving it, i have had a few wifi drop outs but each time it appears to be my dodgy thomson modem resetting itself. Over all i am very impressed with perormance especially given its pricepoint, i bought it under the impression it would give me 95% of the iphone experience at 50% of the price but to be honest its probably a lot better than that, my mum bought a iPhone4 on the weekend and playing around with that and the X5, Froyo seems a lot more user friendly when compared to iOS, mind you i have spent a reasonable amount of time downloading widgets and app's to set the X5 up in a way that i like where as the iPhone4 was literally out of the box.

Android is a lot more configurable than iOS. I honestly think an Android phone will do a lot more than an iPhone - at times it may be slightly more convoluted is all. Case in point is bluetooth file transfer which iOS doesn't allow at all. I use this a lot to share Youtube clips (That I download using JetVD) with my girlfriend.

langers1972: It was never advertised as being upgraded to Gingerbread, only the Wifi hotspot feature

"*WiFi Hotspot: please note that the first software release for the X5 does not contain the Android WiFi 'Hotspot' feature meaning that your X5 cannot act as a WiFi Hotspot for other devices (e.g. laptop) to share its mobile data connection. However the standard WiFi function of the X5 itself is unaffected and works very well. There will be a subsequent software release in April/May which will add the WiFi Hotspot function and we will contact all 2degrees users to provide simple upgrade instructions."

Huawei themselves have pretty much confirmed that Gingerbread 2.3 or 2.4 (at least) will be made available for the X5

damianh: I have problems with WIFI dropping off to.

I have been using a free programme from the market called Wifi Fixer.

This seems to help quite a bit.

The programme also allows you to move between WIFI hotspots say in the same building and it will automatically keep the phone connected.

One annoying bug I have found is that when I move through an area of no cell phone coverage and back into coverage again, the phone does not always recover and a hard reset is required.  Has anyone else seen this?

Also Bluetooth has to be turned on and left for approx 1 minute before I try and connect my headset.  Otherwise the bluetooth errors.

WiFi on the X5 has always been a bit iffy.  Some of the early reviews actually had the WiFi permenantly broken and unable to establish a connection.  Mine is a OK to work with and I probably get a drop out once every couple of times when I am browsing.

I'll have to give WiFi Fixer a go.  Thanks for the heads up.

It definitely looks like the WiFi app that comes with Android on this phone is the source of these issues.  If I use WiFinder (also from the market) to run my connections, the link is solid and it signs on immediately.

Finally someone else has noticed this!!! Its driving me nuts with this phone.... I work in an area of good coverage, but live in an area of very poor coverage, I love this phone while at work, but at home it sucks! Wheneva its gets a "patchy" signal and drops out you almost always have to hard reset to get it bacvk.

What a PITA!

I have also had this, although quite infrequently. I'll try to test it next time I'm in a area with bad coverage.
