Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Yes I think the tool we are using is flawed however, SGS saying 11ma drain and Sensation saying 525ma drain...

I'm interested to here about direct improvements over the Desire, seeing as a lot of desire owners (including me) are considering a Sensation as a replacement

Regrettably I don't have a Desire but one of the other lads may be able to help with that. If you're an HTC fan, you won't be disappointed though, according to reviews and comments I've read so far. It's certainly a premium device, no matter where you come from.

Some of our judgements are being tempered by the fact we're comparing a device running 2.3.3 with one running 2.3.4 so it's not exactly apples to apples. Looking forward to getting 2.3.4 onto it as soon as it's available.

I can say that you're going to love the screen. :-)

The Sensation blog is due to go live very soon and there will be more in depth looks at the phone and Sense there.

Further to the screen discussion, i'd heard so many good things about the Incredible S screen and how the Sensation wasn't quite at that level. But i'm very impressed by the screen on the Sensation, and next to the qHD screen on the Atrix it's a definite improvement.

Battery life, I easily get well over 24 hours including Wifi usage gaming and video. Standby battery drain seems pretty impressive with minimal change overnight.

Which says much about how bad the tool is and little else.

Put it this way... if the Sensation is lasting for 15 hours on a 1500mAH battery, then it's drawing on average 100mA. So even if the widget is showing instantaneous peaks of 500mA, the actual drain is the average, not a specific peak.

And if the Sensation is lasting for 30 hours on that same battery, then it's drawing on average 50mA.

Unless the widget is reporting those numbers, it's worse than useless. The physics can't be denied - if you divide the battery in mAH by the hours until it runs flat (or whatever proportion of its use you want to measure), then that's its average drain. That's what we measure our phone's battery performance by. And the spikes and troughs are meaningless to any real-world conversation about the phone's battery performance.

So I have uninstalled the widget. It has made me decide to write my own app for battery performance though.

I whipped on my modeller's spec for a close-up view of the screen and the pixels were invisible to all intents. That's a very high res screen. To be fair and balanced (no apology to Faux News), with my normal reading glasses on, I can't see any pixels on my SGS's 800x480 screen either so it's moot for me. But the real estate increase is great for lists, browsing and such.

My battery life at the moment is around the 20 hour mark, although that's including more use than I'd normally give it being on test and all. In comparison, I get 30 plus hours on my SGS constantly, with 40 hours regularly, so it's safe to say I think that the higher clock and dual cores do impact battery endurance.

Still anything more than a day is probably irrelevant for most people and a spare battery renders the whole topic a little academic I guess.

Hi,

I'm torn between the Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation. Given their both dual core CPUs, which one is actually the faster and is it is a noticable margin over the other? Also, ignoring importing from the UK where GST is a lottery MobiCity have the Sensation at $200 cheaper than the GS2... Is the GS2 $200 better than the sensation?!

Sorry for the slightly open ended question... I've got an iPhone 3G at present and have been looking at these two phones for a while and I still don't know which is the better one to get when you start to consider price!

Anyone else really tried to replicate the death grip?

Tried last night for the first time - in the bedroom ~10m from the router with 3 walls between - phone shows full bars, drops to only the dot at the bottom of the reception icon after a few seconds of holding the phone in landscape by the top of the phone, then if I hold the bottom of the phone also it drops connection altogether. Tried it a half dozen times with the same result. Other devices that work fine there: N82, Desire, SGSI, SGSII, tablet, laptops. I note that all the other phones report lower reception in the room, makes me wonder if there is a problem in the Sensations reception reporting. I'll do a video later.

I don't think its too big a deal, but I was surprised that it was so easily reproducible.

I generally use it for web browsing, email collection and writing, listening to music, playing the odd game and obviously using it as a business style phone. Bearing in mind I'm running an iPhone 3G on iOS 4.whatever which is sluggish so anything will seem an improvement.

One question, does the sensation have an RDS radio built in?

I'm still wondering whether the Galaxy S will satisfy my needs for a phone or whether I should splash the extra for a newer one...
