I have to say these issues that people are finding with the X5 are holding me back from upgrading from my P500.

I haven't had any show stoppers with the P500, and only complaints are the small (dusty) screen, and pause bug.

I hope the next X5 upgrade promised in April fixes them. Surely changing the sleep policy on wifi will impact battery runtime? How long are you guys getting from your X5's?

BTW, Mauricio had an X5 on loan from 2D and was going to put a full review up here. Has anything happened yet?

I would hardly call the issues we've seen as 'show stoppers'

The X5 is awesome for the money and the little idiosyncrasies are easily dealt with.

I took InspectorGadget's advice and installed WiFinder and that does seem to help with the WiFi drop.

AFAIK no Geekzone review has been posted (or phone offered out in a draw:) )

I'd have to agree with that.

Due to some strange quirks in our house, one particular room has next to no reception. I've also driven it through areas with no reception. I have never had to power cycle the phone to get it running again.

The X5 is an exceptional phone for the money, and I would have no hesitation recommending it over the P500. Plus the P500 has been on the market for a while, uses an older slower chip and the status of future upgrades is questionable.

I know where I'd be putting my money.

Here's another reason not to go down the P500 path. We're starting to see applications which will not run on that hardware because of the lack of support in the older ARM6 CPU.

Have to agree fully, have had the X5 for a month now and completely love it. Still can't believe how good it is for the price. One of my colleagues has the Galaxy S and we were comparing the 2 side by side. The X5 is not as good as the Galaxy S, but differences were so minor and in no way showstoppers.

Plus the price.....

Hi there, Im a long time forum viewer but dont often comment, just a question for other X5 owners out there, I've had a x5 for around 2 weeks and I find it quite often (around once a day) Drops into emergency calls only which it wont come out of unless I restart it. It's on the vodafone network in Wellington CBD. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. Doesn't effect the operation of the phone, just restarting is annoying. I will watch it over the next few weeks and see if it keeps occurring.

I have had this before, but only very infrequently maybe 2-3 times since I've owned the phone (had it for about a month). I'll keep an eye on it and see if I notice it happening again, it sounds like the problem described earlier in the topic about not recovering after a poor signal.

Interesting. I guess it's the phone not the network obviously. Where it has dropped to emergency calls and stayed like that I believe I wouldn't have lost reception, although I may have and just not noticed. Might try Todays incident happened in the Willis St JB Hi-Fi underground food court, thought I may have just been out of reception but after a reset sitting in the same place reception recovered just fine. Read the problem description earlier in the topic before I posted this one as I thought it was different but if I have been loosing reception without noticing then it may be the same. Thanks for the replies so far!

Have you tried turning Airplane mode on and off again?

I'll try that next time it happens as a faster alternative. Still you wouldn't think it would happen at all.

It does sound worrying. I'll ask my mate if it happens to him. I've heard of similar things happening on other phones and its usually due to a damaged sim.

Cheers for that mate. Brand new sim when I bought the phone so wouldn't think it would be that. But you never know I may have damaged it when I put it in.

Cheers for that mate. Brand new sim when I bought the phone so wouldn't think it would be that. But you never know I may have damaged it when I put it in.

I'm voting for a damaged sim, or a dodgy contact to the sim. I've seen this before on other phones along with other network quirkiness.

My X5 is less than 2 weeks old and this has happened twice to me, in both instances it came back on after a few seconds, at hte time i thought maybe the sim has dislodged somehow but given it came back ok i never looked any further, both times were in the same part of my house where signal is bad to say the least.

My thoughts would be on signal drop out, i have not had to reset phone to bring it back to life, so i'm not losing any sleep over it
