Google Photos is the one I'm talking about, don't think I saw a Gallery app, maybe I just missed it.

Anyway I'll do a factory reset later tonight, at least the phone still works for making phonecalls atm.

Few issues I've noticed which I'm keen to hear other people's comments on:

Battery Life seems to take a bit of a hammering, when on standby (with the always on screen on) it seems to drop about 1% every 20-30 mins whereas with the iPhone 6 if I had minimal use for the day it would only drop about 10% over the day. I'm concerned if i give it a bit of heavy use the battery will be flat by lunch time.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of USB-C cables available and they are rather expensive, best idea I've seen is to buy a handful of mini-usb to USB-C adapters from Dick Smith (3 for $7) and purchase mini-usb cables.

iOS had an option where you could mute the sound to notifications but keep the popup, Android only seems to let you turn the whole notification off.

Keen to know what is the most popular messaging app, I believe Google Allo isn't far away

Is it possible to get a screen protector that covers the curves or just the flat surface?

Otherwise it is so far so good

i used my phone for what i consider average use yesterday, got in my car and still had 70% battery left. i usually have 50-60% left when i head home at 5pm. i find the battery life much better than my Note 4 or old iPhone 5S.

Turns out the freezing/rebooting is not limited to photos app, it happened several times when I was browsing with Chrome.

The problem seems to be intermittent and I don't know how to reproduce it anymore (used to always crash in Photos but it fixed itself somehow). How should I approach Spark to get it replaced?

Try reset phone and if problem persists, take phone in. Describe problem but you do not have to reproduce the issue. They should just send it away to be processed by samsungs certified service department.

i had a note 4 with bootloop problem. i took screenshots of the green battery bar showing the erratic reboots, video of the bootloops and a descent fault description.

i did all this after factory resetting the phone and limiting apps installs until the bootloop started happening. i was lucky that it bootlooped about 2mins after factory reset so could tell it wasn't an app issue.

So, I've had my note 7 a week now. My review in 1 word... Meh!

It's not bad, but it's not a big upgrade over my note 5 either. Maybe my note 5 was coping fine with what I did, but my Note 7 doesn't feel any faster. The camera on my N5 was fine, same with N7.

The screen is good, but I had no issues with my N5 screen either...

I am trying to find something about it that I've noticed is significantly better than my N5, and so far I can't.

I would have to agree somewhat. The performance however has some somewhat serious ground to recover in optimizations. Compared to the s7 its slower in UX performance.
Design wise it is the ideal form factor and shape that we smartphone users have been dreaming about for more than a few years now. The bezel cant get any smaller.
Over the note 5 it may feel less of a upgrade, its more impacting from a older phone.
But future phones i cant imagine will be able to improve much on this type of design, its starting to reach the point where its screen to body ratio is at its limit, we will always need the top and bottom bezels.
I would guess that future body designs will be marginal and more focus put into hardware and software.

Well personal preference is everything.
The rounded edges i find are more confortable in the hand, reaching over on the screen less restrictive and feels like more freedom of movement. Also makes the phone feel smaller in the hand, more erganomic.
There is already a firmware update rolling out in countrys that is reporting to be more snappier and smoother in UX.
But i am sure it will get better, i know the potential of the 8890 and its not doing just yet what its suppose to.
I think the software was released incomplete to meet launch date. Happens all the time.

I suspect that at this point the big emphasis is on new features that they hope will change how the phone is used, like the iris scanner (I'm shocked at how well that works), the new options for using the S-Pen (magnify really helps with some poorly-designed websites), and the other stuff. There'll probably never be one perfect form factor because hands are different sizes. Also, a HUGE thing that nobody seems to talk about: the new headphones! Quality aside, I'm one of those people have funny-shaped ear folds who can never get earbuds to stay in, these are a revelation.

Version 1 firmware is always beta, to some extent. Hopefully, the problems some people have been having will all disappear with the next version.

Also, the S-Pen doesn't go in backwards and get stuck. That one will never get old...

Re IRIS Scanner, for me it's just a waste of time, I can unlock my device 100% faster and with complete accuracy with the fingerprint scanner. No more trying to get my eyes in the holes and wide enough for a reading!

I never used fingerprint in the past, was poor in the note 4.
But i use it exclusively for the note 7, especially useful with browser logins. Fantastic!.
The iris scanner however will be great for bank logins or super secure aspects which you may want the added benefit of full proof security.
Both have their benefits i reckon.
