Castlvaniafan: could anyone comment if ANZ banking app works on GrapheneOS with a pixel?

If it doesn't work it's unlikely to be the app itself but if the phone is rooted then it might fail Google Safety net checking

I faced this issue a few years ago and installed this to fix it

Yeah - it was just a standard short promo ad that was leaked early. Didn't have all that much, mostly showing groups enjoying the "AI" stuff that Pixel8 also does - selecting best headshot in group photos, computationally removing wind noise etc.

Google have lost me as a Pixel enthusiast with the Pixel 8. It's meant to be a flagship, but the Pixel 8 pro gets additional features. The hardware is average, CPU not as fast as it should be, below average modem uses a lot of battery, fast charging makes the phone quite hot which reduces battery life, fingerprint sensor is significantly worse than Pixel 4a. Seven years support is nice to have, but not really that useful. It seems to put a lot of effort put into photography, you have to use Google Photos for that, I use photoshop so it doesn't much help me. Google like everyone seems to be going AI mad and future features will probably be along these lines, but AI isn't really that helpful very often. The Pixel 8 is an ok phone, but nothing special. The Samsung S22 released two years earlier has significantly better hardware.

Guess the 'a' series ain't bad if you can wait a year...

The 'a' series seems to be keeping true to the original pixel formula...for me, battery has been great (coming from a 7 year old iphone)..charging is disappointing as it's no where near a fast charging 3 year old Xiaomi that the partner has..the touch accuracy is surprisingly worse than my iphone 7+, but was told it's an android vs ios thing...and the camera is amazing, but that's just me...

Makes sense in the US Google store at the moment as the Pixel 8 is currently discounted. The Australian store has the Pixel 8 at standard price, so AUD350 more than the 8a ($1199 vs $849) and that’s before the 8a store credit deals etc. (You can use the StudentBeans promo to preorder the 8a for around AUD720 + AUD200 Google credit )

The P8 is not a flagship the P8Pro is, Pixels have always had thouse issues, it's just more prevalent now.

That may be part of the problem. P8 should be a smaller screen flagship, rather than just another in the range. I think the only difference other than screen size is 8GB ram instead of 12GB.

It was definitely on special last week - AUD800 and USD550, but JB now has the Pixel 8 back at AUD$1199, and the US Google store has it back to USD$699, so they definitely intend different market pricepoints to the 8a.

The issue was that people have been reviewing the 8a during the last week when the 8 was on special, so all have pointed out that the Pixel 8 is the better purchase if it's less than NZD100 more than the 8a.

Next time, Google might want to think about scheduling their mid-range model not to be on sale while the "a" variant is being reviewed :)

I think they did it on purpose for one last sales hurrah for the P8 since it's a very short window, and people generally don't make good decisions in a hurry...
