Anyone know what's going on with software updates for NZ? It's almost mid June and we haven't received the May security update. Some regions got their update a month ago..

You need to just give things a go.

Unless someone is telling you to "side load", use an "apk" or that you need root, then all the apps you need will be in the Google Play store. That includes the Microsoft Launcher.

There is only one Microsoft Launcher, which is what you had been recommended. None of the others are made by the Microsoft Corporation.

So long as you're happy with any of the apps data safety, just give any a go. You can always uninstall the ones you don't like.

My biggest gripe is that the battery life on my S25U got noticeably worse after the April update. Searching around online I'm not the only person with this issue and I don't do anything super crazy with the phone in terms of screen on time or apps use.

Apparently the original may 2025 update didn't fix this issue, which is why the bigger 1GB late may / early june one came out. Potentially this is why we never got the may update in the NZ market... Its possible either Samsung or the NZ Telcos have decided to wait for the fix before pushing further updates.

Obviously the above is pure speculation on my part based on information available online, but I know other markets are waiting on the latest updates still too. I do recall that on older S series Geekzone threads people have reported skipped/ update in the NZ market in the past though.

I'd rather the security patches ASAP, and then the battery bug to be patched at a later date.

A "just" released phone already missing monthly patches is far from ideal.

My venerable old Fold 3 got an update yesterday that included the May security patch, so I’m surprised the S25U doesn’t have it.
Mind you, it only got the OneUI7/Android15 update about a week ago.

Absolutely, you buy the big brands like Samsung for good software/security support.

Ideally Samsung should send out security and feature updates on a seperate cycle so that security updates can be applied asap.

Im positive thats how it use to be, at least on the A series, I didnt take notice of my last S series. Is there a new download aside from the one on 1st of June?

So I was looking for a Win 10 mobile look and feel, Im pretty sure there are icon packs to run on windows launcher which Im currently using. But there are dedicated launchers for Windows Mobile in its former glory. ie "Grid" and "Launcher 10" Im not sure how current they are but will take a look.

edit: Ive tried win10, its pretty good icon wise but it doesnt have the feel of Windows Mobile, Grid doesnt get great reviews so might go back to microsoft launcher and see if I can find some nice uniform icons. I do like the Nothing look, or the Neon basic outline type icons.

Now, when do we get June patches?

Changelog isn't appearing on the link yet but it was a ~630MB update on my device (not the larger 1GB one some people reported receiving overseas).

At this rate, we probably won't see the June one till end of June at the earliest or failing that mid July....

And meanwhile, in the real world, beta 2 of One UI 8 for the S25 series has just been released. NZ is not part of the beta programme...
